    Eight Below (Adventure),

    Jerry Shepherd (Paul Walker), a guide at the Antarctica base camp, is forced to take an American geologist, Dr Davis McClaren (Bruce Greenwood), on an excursion to find a meteorite, even though it’s the wrong time of the year to go. Travelling with Shepherd’s pack of sled dogs, the men find out how invaluable they are when the lead dog saves McClaren’s life. But a massive snowstorm forces the men to return to the base, leaving the dogs behind. The movie is inspired by a Japanese expedition to the South Pole (1958), where 15 sled dogs were abandoned,
    of which only two survived.

     

    102 Dalmatians

    A sequel to 101 Dalmatians, this Disney movie sees the release of the fur obsessed Cruella De Vil (Glenn Close) from prison on account of good behaviour. Though promising never to have anything to do with fur, she is soon hunting down the Dalmatian puppies to make herself a black-and-white spotted fur coat. Will she succeed in her attempt this time? Each pup acted only for two weeks before being replaced by a new pup, because Dalmatian puppies grow very fast.

    When Chinese diplomat Solon Han’s 11-year-old daughter is kidnapped, he insists that the task force include detective Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) from Hong Kong. But the LAPD sends their detective James Carter (Chris Tucker), to keep Lee away from the FBI’s investigation. The detectives find themselves in hilarious situations, and soon Lee convinces Carter to work on the case with him. Will Smith and Eddie Murphy were the first ones to be considered for the role of Carter, but they turned it down.

    Rise of the Planet of the Apes, (Sci-Fi/Action), Star Movies HD, 11.39 pm

    The story begins with Caesar (Andy Serkis), a chimpanzee who inherits human-like intelligence from his mother after she was given an experimental drug. The creator of the drug, Will Rodman (James Franco) and primatologist Caroline Aranha (Freida Pinto) raise Caesar as their own. But an altercation with a neighbour sends Caesar to an ape sanctuary, where he manages to expose the other inmates to the experimental drug, too. This is the second film in which Serkis plays an ape, having portrayed King Kong in 2005.

    This futuristic film has paraplegic Marine Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) on a mission in a distant world called Pandora—a planet inhabited by blue-skinned beings and other exotic life forms. To better understand them, the humans enter their world donning ‘avatars’. As his avatar, Sully begins to bond with the people of Pandora and soon finds out that his team has a wicked ulterior motive. Will he be able to protect Pandora from his own kind? The Na’vi language was created entirely from scratch, by linguist Dr Paul R Frommer.

    Step Up Revolution (Music/Romance), HBO, 7.05 pm
    Cast: Kathryn McCormick, Ryan Guzman, Cleopatra Coleman
    Emily (Kathryn McCormick) arrives in Miami with aspirations of becoming a professional dancer. She meets Sean (Ryan Guzman), who leads a dance crew called The Mob. Soon the crew turns their performance art into a protest against the development of their neighbourhood by a business tycoon. Things get complicated when the businessman turns out to be Emily’s father. While shooting the opening scene on Ocean Drive, Guzman blacked out and fell off the car because it was too hot.

    Bajirao Singham (Ajay Devgn) is transferred to Mumbai as the deputy commissioner of police. When he discovers one of his men dead, with bags of money on hand, he wants to get to the bottom of it. But while investigating the chief suspect, an evil god man named Satyaraj Chander (Amole Gupte), things go awry, Chander kills Singham’s guruji (Anupam Kher) and, to seek revenge, the police officer resigns from his post. The movie earned `100 crores in just five days.

    Spiderman 3 (Adventure),

    Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) is all set to propose to his girlfriend Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst). But things take a turn when an extra-terrestrial symbiote attaches itself to Peter—turning his suit and his personality black. Meanwhile, the city is under threat from the Sandman, who is really Flint Marko (Thomas Haden Church), a criminal who changed after an accident in a particle accelerator. The release date for
    the sequel was set way before Spiderman 2 was released in 2004.

    The Man of Steel (Brandon Routh) returns to Earth after five years. Upon his arrival, he discovers that people in Metropolis don’t need him anymore and the love of his life, Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth), has moved on with someone else. But then he is forced to face his old enemy, Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey), who has been released from prison and now has the powerful Kryptonian crystals. Routh, Bosworth and Spacey signed the movie without reading the script.

    Phir Hera Pheri (Comedy),

    Cast: Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Paresh Rawal
    The sequel to Hera Pheri, this film sees Raju (Akshay Kumar), Shyam (Sunil Shetty) and Baburao (Paresh Rawal) living a lavish life. However, in a bid to get richer, Raju approaches Anuradha (Bipasha Basu), a woman posing as a bank official who promises to double their money if they invest `1 crore. But once they pay up, she disappears with their money. Lara Dutta signed up for
    the movie, but she opted out
    of it eventually.
