After being rejected from military service during World War II, Steve Rogers (Evans) is recruited by Dr Abraham Erskine (Stanley Tucci) for a secret project called Rebirth. It transforms Rogers into a super soldier called Captain America. Later, Dr Erskine is assassinated by an agent who works for Johann Schmidt (Weaving), the head of a German science division called Hydra, as he fears the success of Dr Erskine’s project. Would this be the end for Rogers, too? Tucci took up the role because he was keen on giving Dr Erskine’s German accent a shot.

Journey to the

After finding a box that belonged to his missing brother, Max Anderson (Jean-Michel Pare), Trevor (Fraser) and his 13-year-old nephew Sean (Hutcherson) set out to find out how Anderson disappeared. They travel to Iceland and are guided by Hannah (Anita Briem), the daughter of an Icelandic volcanologist. Hannah helps them climb the volcano, but when a storm hits they are forced to take shelter in a cave that accidentally leads them into a lost world in the centre of the Earth. What does this strange place have to do with Max’s disappearance? Indie filmmaker Paul Chart was to direct the film, but he backed out after it was decided to shoot in 3D.

Inspector Chulbul Pandey (Salman) is in charge of a local police station in Kanpur, where he resides with his wife Rajjo (Sinha), brother Makkhi (Arbaaz) and stepfather (Vinod Khanna). The place is a hub of criminal activities, from kidnapping and rape to murder—all thanks to Bachcha (Raj), a struggling politician and the don of the area. Pandey kills Bachcha’s brother Genda (Deepak Dobriyal) when he tries to harass and kidnap a girl. Bachcha avenges his brother’s death by killing Makkhi and pushing a pregnant Rajjo from the temple stairs, leading to a miscarriage and a head injury. It is now Pandey’s turn for revenge. The movie recorded the highest screen count for any film in India and worldwide.

The princess of Arendelle, Elsa (Menzel) has the power to freeze anything she touches. Unable to control her power, she almost kills her younger sister Anna (Bell) while playing. So the king and queen confine Elsa to her room. But they die in a sea storm soon after, and years later Elsa comes out of confinement to be crowned queen. When Anna humiliates her, causing her to lose control and freeze the kingdom, she runs away. Anna teams up with an iceman called Kristoff (Groff) and his reindeer, and vows to bring back her sister. The movie got two Academy Awards—for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song.

When asked by a young Canadian writer, Yann Martel (Rafe Spall), about the story of his life, Pi Patel (Khan), who is settled in Canada, narrates the story of his childhood in Pondicherry and the origin of his name. He describes how his father, a zoo owner, decides to move to Canada when the municipality stops supporting the zoo. The Japanese cargo ship they board with all the animals sinks when a storm hits, killing everyone on board except for Pi, a zebra, an orangutan, a hyena and a male Bengal tiger nicknamed Richard Parker, who survive in a lifeboat. Soon Pi’s narration takes off to exotic islands and fantastic tales. Was there another side to the story? Tobey Maguire was originally cast as writer, Yann Martel.

George Banks (David Tomlinson) and his wife Winifred (Glynis Johns) are in search of a nanny to look after their naughty children, Jane (Karen Dotrice) and Michael (Matthew Garber). Though many apply, oddly they are all blown away by a strong wind. Then Mary Poppins (Andrews), who glides down from the sky on her umbrella, is interviewed by the Banks and appointed for a trial period. She is no ordinary nanny and soon takes the children on many magical adventures. But what will happen after the trial period? Many of the nannies who were blown away at the beginning of the film were actually men in drag.
