    The Legend of Tarzan

    Director: David Yates
    Cast: Alexander Skarsgård,
    Margot Robbie
Five years after his final Harry Potter movie broke box office records, David Yates is back with The Legend of Tarzan. High on action sequences, the movie is watchable thanks to decent performances by Skarsgård, Robbie, Christoph Waltz and Samuel L Jackson. But a second watch? We’d rather wait for Yates’ next, Fantastic Beasts  and Where to Find Them.

    The Shallows

    Director: Jaume Collet-Serr
    Cast: Blake Lively

If you like survival films, The Shallows is a decent one-time watch. It tells the story of Nancy Adams (Lively), who is attacked by a great white shark while surfing the waves at a secluded beach in Mexico. She is stranded 200 yards from shore. The CGI effects are rendered to perfection, making the Adams vs shark battle uncomfortably real. It’s a taut thriller, a suspenseful horror movie, and an action flick all rolled into one.

    Vithaiyadi Naanunakku

    Director: Ramnathan KB
    Cast: Ramnathan KB, Sowra Syed

It’s about a young girl who runs away from home and finds herself trapped in a bungalow with a psychopath. She’s just got her first break in films, while he’s an ageing once-successful film director. The cat-and-mouse game between the two and the convincing take on their characters by Ramnathan and Syed, rarely has a boring moment. Bold and experimental in its take, the plot—with just two characters in the frame—is an intriguing and engaging suspense thriller.
