Wig-o-Mania launches its flagship store with on-trend hair pieces and a lounge for personalised fittings.

T the Grammys earlier this week, Lady Gaga channelled David Bowie in a bright orange wig. A couple of days earlier, singer Sia sported a black-and-white fringed number at a pre-Grammy event. And let’s not forget model Gigi Hadid’s choppy-bob wig at the recent American Music Awards and Katy Perry’s favourite Smurf-blue locks. The message is clear: wigs are the new LBD, every wardrobe needs one.
Now with UK brand, Wig-O-Mania, opening their flagship store in the city, we have access to an international range. “We introduced our wigs in high-end salons in India, four years ago. Since then, we’ve developed an excellent corporate base in Chennai, so we decided to open our first shop here,” begins Hasnain Mohamedali, the CEO.
Designed in tandem with Joyce Chapman, the creative technical consultant and a professional hairdresser, the wigs closely follow what is trending on runways, red carpets and the local market. Available in three options—wigs made with Kenekelon fibre, Japanese high-heat fibre and human hair—they are competitively priced, too (since Wig-O-Mania manufactures and distributes them). “We’ve introduced five new styles for the launch, including Laurel (long-haired, with highlights and a mono parting that mimics the natural one) and Susan (a sleek lob),” adds Mohamedali. The store also has a private lounge, where professionals will guide you on which piece to buy depending on your face, complexion and needs.

Here’s the long and short of it—bangs are the quickest way to give your look a 2016 update (think Taylor Swift’s new do). Investing in a wig with a fringe isn’t a necessity, as Wig-O-Mania offers clip-in bangs. In a variety of lengths and styles, they are easy to wear and so much fun.

Kylie Jenner is famous for donning wigs (from pinks to minty greens). “It’s so much fun and you feel totally liberated,” she’d posted on her website. We suggest trying the season’s favourite colours—from cinnamons to ash blondes and even candy shades.

Itchy scalp a worry? The weft technique and monofilament wigs (where each hair is hand knotted to the base) offer good ventilation. And there’s no excuse not to give new styles a try—the high-heat fibre and human hair wigs can be curled, cut and coloured!

The lob is in. Adele and Khloe Kardashian are fans. Even Kate Middleton recently chopped off her signature locks. But you don’t need to do anything that drastic—just pick up a wig (the Susan, perhaps) in a colour of your choice. If you want a choppy texture, take it to a professional and get a razor cut.

While ‘fashion wigs’ are all the rage, a large segment of theirs targets necessity wearers—women who suffer from temporary or permanent hair loss. “Cancer is the biggest reason for temporary hair loss, and according to research in the UK, the first question that pops into a woman’s mind when she is told she has cancer is ‘I will lose my hair’,” says Chapman. Wig-O-Mania has a wide variety on offer, from full wigs to ones that  cover the top and crown areas. “Women prefer a middle part or a pulled-back look here, so they can look like their earlier selves,” concludes Mohamedali.
