Both Malini Ramani and Urvashi Kaur share their party essentials and tell you what to expect at Collage this weekend
As the festive month approaches, with a lot of travel and cocktail parties on the cards, Collage showcases seasonal lines from two designers. They are women with distinct personalities, one with a flirty, sparkly sensibility, the other with an earthy, boho vibe, but both are big on resort wear. We got talking to Malini Ramani and Urvashi Kaur about the December wardrobe, a season when the office to party schedule is a norm, making transitional pieces imperative. Here are five things to remember when stocking up for the days ahead:
1. Anything gold goes with the Indian skin, says Ramani, whose sequinned dresses are a given at this time of the year. ‘‘Accessorise with a cuff; I like them in gold. And I make gold kolhapuris with wedges that are currently in Chennai,’’ she adds.
2.Ramani’s one shoulder flowing dresses are great for all body types and ages, with the drape giving an indo-western edge. Currently in pink and mango, they are especially popular among expats in Goa.
3.Comfort is the key, says Ramani, referring to her wrap dresses, kaftans and hooded capes. Kaur celebrates relaxed styles and her fabrics are often chanderi, matka and tussar with earthy colours, tie-dye technique and pleating concepts.
4.The designers believe that separates allow room for originality. While they both favour quirky hats, they suggest that a wearer accessorise to suit her personality.
5. Kaur’s top choice for the year-end bash is her layered, asymmetric jersey dress in dark grey and beige, that has a sexy silhouette. Her make-up is nude, with smoky eyes and red lips. Ramani, on the other hand, suggests sequins, good energy and a smile.
