A quick look at what’s new at Vasanty Manet’s Via Pondicherry
Via Pondicherry is all things unusual and quirky. Designer and dancer, Vasanty Manet’s store showcases a fusion of Indian and French culture. With bright hand-bags, textiles, home décor andshawls, their offerings are a big hit among expats. Manet has been known to retail at the famous French fair, Maison & Objet, which happens twice a year in Paris. Here’s what new on the shelves:
This woven jacquard on handloom is one of Manet’s favourites. With heavy embroidery featuring thread, zari and beads, the bag is practical with several compartments. “We got this one done by weavers from Tamil Nadu on pure leather. It is nothing less than a branded bag,” she says. Take this one along for weddings and you are sure to get compliments.
From Rs 600 onwards.
How about some history before hitting the sack? Their maharaja bed covers are show stoppers. “They were the kings of Jaipur and Baroda. We procure pictures of the erstwhile kings of Jaipur and Baroda, work on them and then digitally print them,” explains Manet.
From Rs 3,000 onwards.
Ward off the evil eye in style with these oval shaped mirrors. “We have six different sizes. When you assemble them and hang them together on a wall, it becomes a statement piece. The mirror has an ancient look, but the image it produces is magnified as compared to a regular mirror,” she says. We bet Manet uses it to nail shop lifters at Via Pondy!
From Rs 750 onwards.
