Home Chennai After Dark Back With a Bang

T FEELS great to be back in Chennai after a whirlwind trip, escaping the heat and discovering new places. A Eurotrip that included Italy, with great people, food and weather. The must-sees, in Rome, Florence and Venice, corny photos included, mixed with a few spots that were off the beaten path. Next stop Vienna, for some classical indulgence, followed by Prague for history via the Segway. The trip ended in the UK with a drive to Scotland’s Edinburgh and Loch Lomond, so breath takingly beautiful, with a quick stop in London.
But Chennai saw its share of action as well. Riyaad Mathew, director of Watchtime India magazine, hosted an exclusive cocktail dinner at the Taj Coromandel on Friday night. There was a spectacular display of revered Swiss brands Corum and Ulysses Nardin. Besides getting to take a closer look, guests were given informed insights into these sought after brands. The distinguished gathering included Bharat Joshi, Karti Chidambaram, AVM Balu, Minnie Mennon, leading industrialists and Chennai’s fashionistas. Cricketers and brand friends (a new term I’ve IMG-20150530-WA0004learnt) Yuvraj Singh and Shikar Dhawan added an edge to the evening. No surprise that the usual selfies began and our heroes obliged, even autographing special mini bats for the occasion. Rumour has it that the after party continued at Prego.
Earlier on in the week, The Park in association with the NGO MCCT Relief presented In aid of Nepal, an initiative by Dhruv Mehrotra and Amar Jacob. The city’s party peeps, The Leather Bar regulars as well as corporates, turned up in large numbers. DJs Chubby, Amar Jacob, of RO and Gautam, all of whom performed for the cause, did a great job and kept the energy up with techno and house. Apart from the funds raised, The Park also contributed a percentage of bar sales towards the cause. Meanwhile, Rutland Gate Yoga studios played host to a Bollywood dance workshop, to raise funds for the same. Their newly-rennovated studio space, saw almost a hundred people take part, happy to do their bit for a worthy cause.
The week ended with a special screening of San Andreas at INOX courtesy Cinema Spice Magazine’s Red Carpet Fridays. It was a relaxed evening for some, while for others it looked like this was the first stop for the evening. The big draw for most though, was leading man Dwayne Johnson, who it appears, did not disappoint.
