Experimental dishes and an extensive drinks menu make this pub a hit

Fans of the movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang now have reason to celebrate, as its namesake gastropub threw open its doors recently. Located near the traffic-fueled Sony World signal in Koramangala, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, promises good food and drinks, lively music and a lovely view. The gastropub’s bar menu will have you spoilt for choice, with options like the Orange Jalapeno. If you like your drinks spicy, this one is the perfect fiery number. Even their mocktails, such as the Deep Sea (a blue Curaçao-based drink) and Cranberry Cutie, are as well-made as their cocktails.

    Something solid

The long list of appetisers has plenty to offer, from classics to innovative creations. Apart from the usual French fries, onion rings (cheekily named Lord of The Rings) and nachos, you can choose from options like the Crunchy Chicken Tenders, which are marinated in buttermilk and fried till crisp.

Those in the mood to experiment further can choose the Salmon Puchka — pani puris with salmon. Yes, you read that right! We also recommend the Bacon Jam on Crostini and the Butter Chicken Poutine — creamy butter chicken served atop French fries. The Pondy Beef gets a special mention for its spicy curry leaf-topped mouthfuls.

If you prefer healthier options, the Broccoli Aglio Olio is a good choice. Garnished with sundried tomatoes and olives, this dish packs a punch in each bite. The Spicy Peanuts and the Cabbage Roll are also good low-cal choices.

    Bigger bites

For mains, the pub has a decent pizza selection, with choices like the traditional Margherita, Pepperoni and Hawaiian Chicken and the not-so-traditional Primavera Veg, Chicken Bolognese and ‘Fruity’ De Mare. We tried the vegetable lasagna, which although well made, didn’t blow us away. The Continental Pepper Chicken, served with mashed Potatoes did nothing to impress us either. The menu also has sections dedicated to burgers and sandwiches.

    Sugar rush

The desserts section has some much-loved picks like Tiramisu, Panna Cotta, Sundae Brownie and Almond Semifreddo. We recommend the creme brûlée, which is served with Maple Syrup — a well thought-out combination.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang does a good job of being a round-the-corner gastropub. Located in a neighbourhood where most pubs either focus on low-priced drinks or a fine-dining experience, this one strikes the right balance and is also easy on the pocket.
