The famous Shakespearean education course debuts in India
Globe Education, a performing arts course run by London’s historic Shakespeare’s Globe theatre house, will debut in India today. It is to mark the 400th death anniversary of playwright William Shakespeare. Through a series of workshops, conferences and creative activities. It aims to make Shakespearean text easy to understand, and perform for children. It is intended for both school students, and teachers.
City theatre group Imbroglio Productions has brought the programme to India, and calls it ‘The Performer’s Initiative’. It will later travel to Delhi.
Founder of Imbroglio Productions, Divyesh Bhandari, tells us about the importance of this workshop for Indian students. “There are so many international schools in India now. So a performing arts workshop like this will complement their international academic curriculum.” In fact, a few students will also be shortlisted for further training, and flown to London later this year.
“For students, the workshop will be filled with games (role plays, and puppetry) and ice-breakers so they can hone their acting and communication skills. We will mainly look at The Merchant of Venice and Macbeth since they are part of our school lessons. The teachers’ workshop will focus on how to deliver Shakespearean texts in a fun way,” shares Bhandari.
