Popular blogger Dhwani Bhatt on the internet’s influence on style
CREATING original content, particularly when it comes to cracking beauty formulae can be quite a task, a challenge popular YouTuber Dhwani Bhatt takes on with a smile. “Beauty bloggers, at least here in India, really don’t face any competition, but we find it really hard to stand out among so many other creators,” rues Mumbai-based Bhatt.
Having started her channel for beauty tips and easy DIYs back in 2014, her two-year stint on YouTube and 87 videos have gotten over a million views. Talking about how she started off, the 22-year old says, “I wanted to share my creativity with other girls out there and YouTube is the perfect platform. I uploaded my first video, DIY: Chocolate Lip Balm and the response was overwhelming. I have been at it since.”
She identifies the difficulty of going viral online, pointing out the inevitability of comparison with fellow creators. “The key is to stay original and true to your style of content.”
Ask her if online beauty works differently for men and women, and she disagrees, pointing out changing perceptions and beauty needs among men. “I come across guys who ask me questions related to personal care and beauty, which makes me quite happy. My channel is mostly for girls, but if a guy wants to try out any of the makeup or skincare products or a tip, they totally can,” she says.
The blogger, who also deals with decor and lifestyle, has a style pointer for people who want to be festival-ready. “Glitter lips are in, but if you are looking for a safe option to add instant glamour to your look without much effort, then a bold lipstick is your go-to makeup hack,” she offers.
