The root vegetable is back on everyone’s menu, in the form of salads, chips and even dips

Ever since the Beet Wellington gave this season’s Masterchef  contestants a run for their money, we’ve been noticing the humble winter vegetable popping up on menus across town. While the vibrant shade of pinkish-purple makes it an attractive addition to the plate, it is also rich in antioxidants. Here’s our pick of where you can get your beet-fix in the city.

    Foodhall
If you’re ever faced with a case of the munchies, yet want to eat healthy, head over to Foodhall. The department store stocks a range of nutritional snacking options, one of them being beetroot chips. The vegetable is sliced and drizzled with olive oil and herbs before being baked until crisp. Rs 200 for 350 grams. At Trinity Circle. Details: 22086533

    Hype
This rooftop venue has put the humble beetroot to good use. Opt for their Shawarma Burger and you get yourself a generous helping of potato fries infused with beet juice on the side. The crispy fries go great with the accompanying tahini sauce. At Shangri-La, Palace Road. Details: 45126470

    Carrots
It’s not surprising that this cafe, geared towards health, would think to include beetroot in its menu. Our pick is the Ruby Smoothie. Aptly named, the concoction is a blend of beetroot, vegan yoghurt, banana and sesame seeds, with a dash of jaggery for sweetness. Rs 160. At Koramangala. Details: 41172812

    Skyye
This swanky lounge bar serves up a Mediterranean platter with a trio of
flavoured pita bread, grilled halloumi and an assortment of dipping sauces. The highlight is the lovely red hummus, which blends chickpeas and beetroot. A great way to counter all those martinis, we say. Rs 475. At UB City, Vittal Mallya Road. Details: 49090000

    Smoke House Deli
The deli’s health menu marries together the earthy flavours of smoked beetroot with arugula, and tangerine for a dish that is both refreshing and hearty at the same time. A balsamic vinaigrette dressing ties it all together. Rs 350. At Lavelle Road. Details: 40515151

    Sway
Whoever said you can’t have your cake and eat it too, probably didn’t come face to face with the non-vegetarian sliders at Sway — The Terrace Bistro. Their slider buns, made in house, are given a healthy infusion of beetroot juice, lending them a red hue. Choose from options such as chicken, beef and pulled pork. Rs 225 upwards. At Kalyan Nagar.
