Savour a traditional Japanese boxed meal at Edo
If you are looking for a luxurious pre-set, quality meal that you can savour at leisure, head out for Edoas Obento a Artful Bento Meals, conceptualised by chef Kamlesh Joshi.
Available only for dinner, these are elaborate meals, plated artistically on a large platter. Start with Tsukenomo, a pickled salad. This serves as a palate cleanser and can be had all through the meal. The Kani Salad, julienned crab sticks, mixed with Japanese mayo and topped with flying fish roe is next. Sushi and sashimi are the highlight of the box. The sashimi depends on the fresh fish available at Edo. We were served the salmon. Kampachi, or Yellow Tail sashimi are the alternatives available. Also part of the meal were the Edo signature sushi rolls with crab, yellow tail, salmon and tuna, topped with Tobika (flying fish roe). The tempura basket has prawns, lady fish, Japanese eggplant and other vegetarian options.
Up next was the Japanese black pork from the Robatayaki. It is seared with salt, pepper and teriyaki sauce. The New Zealand lamb shanks marinated in Soya, Sake, Mirin and braised for 12 hours meant the meat was marinated and cooked perfectly. The meal wraps up with Yaki Udon and Miso Soup with silken tofu thatas poured from a little kettle. Dessert is a sesame ice cream.
All through your meal, you will notice the delicate hand with which each element has been treated a be it the knife skills, the plating or even the garnish a all adding up to a superlative experience that is classic Edo.
