OUR initiation to the summer has officially begun as we braved the heat this week. In a bold move, production house Studio9 celebrated their launch with a poolside event at the Taj Club House. They presented Evolv’s spring summer collection, hoping, I suppose, the fashion would distract guests from the soaring temperatures. The pool acted as the centre-piece for the evening, with an extra slim runway snaking its way around. The models later proved that they were up for the task. As for the audience, those who placed themselves strategically got a little help from the breeze. The clothes ranged from the latest by Gaurav and Rithika, the Evolv label itself and sibling duo Julia and Sita Mahan’s SS-14 line, High Tropics. Neat silhouettes, peachy tones, stark whites and statement necklaces were the highlights, with fuss-free choreography. Speeches were kept to a minimum, with complete focus on the clothes and a quick appearance by show stoppers Sneha Nair, Vimmi Deepak, and celebrity couple Sneha and Prasanna.

Meanwhile, at Amethyst, online gift portal Cherrytin.com put together an ‘Evening of Love’ to celebrate the joy of weddings. Prospective brides, event planners, and curious guests gathered to witness the unveiling of a brand new range of wedding-related goodies. The collection spanned everything from home décor to stationery, and Kanika Subbiah, founder, talked about Cherrytin’s unique approach to bridal gifting. The ‘big fat Indian wedding’ has provided fodder for many a comedian and this time theatre group Evam  (Karthik Kumar and Ashwin Rao) had us in splits with their take on it.

turned up for a night of bespoke suits and fine whisky. The evening, by Chivas 18 and Ashish Soni, saw guests (many having followed the dress code of ‘blue’) enjoy a film on bespoke suits, as well as the spread set up by the hotel.

The week ended with a little retail therapy, thankfully indoors, with an evening hosted by Vandana Shrikanth at Luxxe Box. A special preview of the Furla, Tumi and Armani spring/summer collections saw the ladies more than happy to drop by for a spot of tea. It was a relaxed setting where brand loyalists got to pick and choose their favourites.
