Bringing in beats all the way from Nairboi, DJ Foozak (otherwise known as Akaash Patel) comes in to the city to celebrate the first year of Sanchos, at UB City. Known for his edgy tracks and precision mixing of the various sub genres of dance, you can expect powerful baselines and groovy tunes. The head honcho of the Be Distinctive Kenya pool party movement tells us more.
Starting out in music.
I started attending some really cool parties in Nairobi and I got to know the organisers well. Then on, I literally kept pestering them for lessons and eventually learned to play! But it was not until university in England that I realised that I could pursue it as a career.
Describe your unique sound
Essentially it is progressive, electro and tech house, with a lot of deep vibes. I am also very inspired by things around me. I love sampling sounds from nature as well.
The gig in Bangalore
I have heard the energy in Bangalore is amazing! It is all about the energy. I believe in giving each crowd 100 per cent and connecting with them through my music. I expect a lot of dancing feet.
Peak into the set list
I won’t spoil the surprise completely, but one certainty is Lucas Guerrieri – the Harmony (original mix). It is, has been and probably always will be a regular in my sets!
Vibes of the audience.
When I look out at the crowd and see an ocean of people with happy faces pulsing to the music I play, it is an instant high. Even more rewarding, however, is playing them the music you have made!
Battling nerves pre-performance
I used to when I first started playing out! Nowadays it’s pure excitement and adrenaline.
Music festivals versus exclusive gig
Oh, I pick niche gigs without doubt and hesitation. They are so much more fun and raw.
German house duo Booka Shade, their music is fantastic.
Favourite performance destination
Ibiza is my favourite.
