The spirit of adventure took over this week, with the action shifting outdoors. The surf contest organised by the Covelong Point Surf School was the perfect getaway for beach lovers. Whether food, music or a quick surf lesson, there was plenty to choose from. One of the main attractions was cricketer Johnty Rhodes, while the local boys walked away with quite a few top honours.
Another part of the coast saw a gathering of big bikes. Harley-Davison hosted their Southern HOG ride, bringing together over 200 riders. It was awesome to see men, women and children partake in the festivities. I was told there are about a 130 Harley owners in Chennai alone. And bike enthusiast or not, the sound of the entire gang rolling out is like nothing you’ve ever heard before.
Creating a different sort of frenzy among brides-to-be in the city, was designer Sabyasachi Mukerjee’s visit. Not only was he here to showcase his latest bridal collection, but also to offer one-on-one time as well. Ask him about Bollywood and he’s quick to reference Rani Mukerjee. “I was not known very well and she was one of the queens of the industry at that time. She was responsible for my mainstream success,” he says, adding, “We’re also good friends — we’re both Bengali, have a lot in common and talk about more than fashion.”
