The lead up to Valentine’s Day saw a mix of great events, along with the usual share of controversy that comes with it every year. Starting off the week was SulaFest’15, the most gorgeously situated Gourmet World Music Fest, hosted by Sula Vineyards, Nasik. While it certainly makes for a romantic destination, the annual festival sees the popular venue exuding a whole other vibe. Fans from all over the country made the trip, for some music, camping and grape stomping. The festival line up this year included a fantastic range of music with Gentleman’s Dub Club, Will and the People, Yes Sir Boss, Monkey Brothers, Peter Schumann and headlining act Young The Giant.
In Chennai, the ladies geared up for The Wild Garden Tea Party presented by Amethyst and Ritz. Celebrating the spirit of Valentine’s Day, All Loved Up presented an unabashedly girly afternoon with music, high tea and a fashion show set amidst vintage inspired decor. Inspired by Marilyn Monroe’s iconic performance of I wanna be loved by you, the show saw well known personalities walking the petal strewn ramp in shades of red, pink and white. A live performance by Grammy award-winning singer Tanvi Shah,  capped the event, and treats like chocolate dipped strawberries, heart-shaped biscuits and pink bubbly made the rounds.
On the subject of retro, making a visit to Chennai this week were music legends Boney M, who caught up with a select group of people at an evening hosted by The Westin. Original band member Maizie Williams and the new line up were happy to swap stories and share experiences. It came as no surprise that most everyone has strong memories of popular hits Rasputin, Daddy Cool and Brown girl in the Ring, tied inextricably to all our childhoods.
Meanwhile, Kerala rockers, Thaikkudam Bridge  performed to a packed house with fans across all ages. The band had girls lining up to get on stage and take part in their headbanging competition. This week also saw the ITC Grand Chola celebrate, as it welcomed its new GM, Anil Chadha, as former GM Ranvir Bhandari turned vice president operations for ITC Hotels. We wish them good luck with the group.
