Michelle Salins’ flagship store beckons the weary shopper2702BuyLead2

STRIKING purple door welcomes you into designer Michelle Salins’ new store, located in the heart of town. Set over 2,500 square feet, the two-level space serves as a bridal salon-cum-studio, also housing her pret line for both women, men and children. The underlying purple and gold theme is woven around interesting quotes, hand-painted on the walls by a Chennai-based artist. “Purple is an extension of my personality. When people walk in, I want them to feel warmth and not the cold of a commercial space,” shares Salins.2702BuyLead3

    Moving up
Originally working out of a small studio in the same complex, Salins decided to move her business forward and expand when the space opened up. “With my store in the US properly settled, I felt it was time to increase my visibility in this city,” she reveals.
The store opens today with her summer collection, inspired by Lego. “They’re so quirky and fun and I had a good time infusing that element into the garments,” she tells us. The line sees a lot of fitted, structured and feminine, ethereal gowns. Plus tunics, trousers, blouses and skirts, with edgy details like zippers and interesting layers. The Lego head print too has been liberally used in monochrome and stunning wine red shades. A flowy orange and pink crepe number with a zipper running right across the front is a great piece to own this summer, but her personal favourite is the skyline dress, a huge hit with her clients in the US. Black and deep purple, it is essentially a sheath, but is cinched in at the waist to flatter and accentuate the curves. For her newly introduced men’s wear range, Salins offers jackets, shirts and trousers in fabrics like Belgium linen and cotton blended with silk and linen. Colours like teal blue, steel grey and deep earthy brown dominate. The bridal salon is set to include accessories like corsages and tiaras to complement the bridal entourage. The kids line too is prominently displayed along one wall, boasting adorable dresses in fun girly colours like bubblegum pink and mint green, ideal for flower girl outfits, christenings and birthdays too.

Salins also plans to hosts bi-monthly pop-ups and is currently in talks with Ami Patel, stylist to stars like Priyanka Chopra and Shilpa Shetty, for her first styling event. Look out for her home furnishings line, set to launch in a few months.
