Urban Factory adds a global spin to fashion with its latest collection

pg7-1During her frequent travels to India, designer Madhuri Lakkapragada, who has made Los Angeles her home for over a decade now, noticed that people were at least a year behind in terms of international fashion. “Take the long cardigan with stripes for instance, I see people in India still sporting the trend, whereas it’s long gone from the European and USA markets,” she explains.
In order to bridge this gap in fashion, she launched her maiden brand Urban Factory in Los Angeles last year. And now, come April, the Indian market will have access to the merchandise online. As a precursor to the launch, the 31-year-old designer showcased her summer collection designed and made in Spain, at the recently concluded Bangalore Fashion Week. “We have the runway collection for sale on our e-commerce site but the summer collection will be available for customers in India from the second week of April,” she says pg7-3further adding, “the main concept behind Urban Factory was to collaborate with designers across the world
and bring their creativity under one umbrella.”
The collection of 30 season-specific garments is divided into four colourful themes to give a matchless touch reflecting the uniqueness of cuts, fabrics, work, patterns and more. The four categories include Indigo Blue, which encompasses different tones of blue in the garments with straight line cuts and geometrical prints. Nature Sage is all about natural colours with leather detailing giving it an exotic look, and the Mosaic tiles feature mosaic prints with lace details. Belle de Jour, is another variety, that is apt for festive occasions. “We will soon open exclusive stores in Hyderabad and Bengaluru,” she adds.
