a clear picture of your prospective alma mater with Helpingo
With college admissions currently underway, it’s always useful to get some additional information about colleges you’re planning on applying to. While parents end up reading a zillion college brochures, nothing can be more assuring than hearing it from the horses’ mouth — either current students, or those who have graduated.
This is where Ayushi Sinha and Anand Kumar’s startup could prove handy. Called Helpingo, it is an online forum to connect students seeking admission in a college with those already studying there. Sinha tells us that parents are also active on the platform, which has clocked 400 sign-ups since its May launch. With 150-plus seniors from colleges in Bengaluru, Mysore, Hassan, and other towns in Karnataka in its ranks, plans are on to onboard alumni, and recruiters as well. They also plan to include detailed write-ups about each college. “But alumni can, at most, be 2014 graduates,” says Sinha, a BTech graduate from IIIT Allahabad, explaining, “We aim to provide up-to-date information.”
Currently, there are two main features. Existing students of a college can sign up under the ‘Become A Senior’ tab. Then, the Helpingo team will call them up, assess their motives, and give them a unique phone number, on which they can be reached.
Sinha points out that while parents are concerned about the quality of faculty, canteen food, and job prospects, students are equally curious about the social life on campus.
