Tarun Tahiliani tackles trousseau, styling, make-up and other issues in the build-up to the Vogue Wedding Show
Tarun Tahiliani is no stranger to Chennai. Most high-profile weddings in our city feature the king of drape. Then there are his private visits that have inspired his collections, including the Kanjeevaram-themed creations earlier this year and, the designer shares, an upcoming menswear line. In the city as part of Vogue Bridal Studio at the Taj Coromandel, Tahiliani had the 100-strong crowd listening to his every word, as he and Vogue India editor Priya Tanna, talked about the dos and don’ts of luxury weddings, destination events, what the family of the bridegroom should wear, the trousseau, jewellery and so on.
The high tea was a prelude to the second edition of the Vogue Wedding Show in New Delhi in August which, like last year, is expected to have the most wanted names in fashion, wedding planning and jewellery. According to Tahiliani, July-August is when there are new developments in fashion, which is why brides-to-be would benefit from the event. This road show covers about seven cities, with bridal couturiers like Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Manish Malhotra and J J Valaya sharing their opinions.
Tanna, who was in the city last year to launch a Chennai capsule in her magazine, described the master classes in fitness, make-up and hair styling that will be part of their show. Participants will include jewellers like Amrapali and Rose, together with wedding experts like Vandana Mohan. ‘‘We want to engage with premier families, especially those with a wedding in the family, and have invited a relevant crowd to all of the road shows,’’ said Tanna, who saw people flying in from Dubai and Surat for the show last year. ‘‘Tarun was perfect for Chennai as he is a champion with the female form and his clothes transport you to a time when women dressed to celebrate being women,’’ she added.
As expected, the designer’s cultural references kept the gathering entertained. As for Taj, they showcased their famed Timeless Weddings with experiential zones and delightful finger food like blue cheese and onion scones served with apricot and saffron jam. The Vogue Wedding Show is at the Taj Palace, New Delhi, from August 1-3, 2014. Details: www.vogueweddingshow.in or call on +91 9920274470
