The weather might have continued to be unpredictable, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of party goers one bit. At the top of the list, two launches to keep city car enthusiasts happy. The first was the Audi A3, unveiled with a great deal of excitement by actor Parvathy Omanakuttan and racer Aditya Patel. Despite the heavy celebrity presence, the car remained the star, with both Omanakuttan and Patel talking about the sporty compact aspect that they loved. Following quickly on the heels of the Audi A8 and the RS7, the ‘world car of the year’, according to CEO K Subramanian, is bound to be a new Chennai favourite.
Also unveiling a new car this week was Hyundai, presenting the Elite i20 at an event at The Leela Palace. They traded in the usual glitz and glamour for a super high-tech presentation, a spin off on well known spy flicks with secret agents, missions, gadgets and more.
Those that might have been looking forward to an appearance by brand ambassador Shah Rukh Khan though, had to make do with a short video. Taking the stage instead was Casey Hyun, the mastermind behind the car’s design. Presentations led to the big reveal, the new hatchback-meets-sedan, flanked by leggy models. Our mission was deemed ‘complete’.
Earlier on in the week, the pace was nice and easy at ‘Lunch n Learn’, as Radisson Blu City Centre joined other star hotels in setting up a series of cooking workshops. Chef Lawrence showed us the ropes of Continental cuisine, and those of us that thought we could get away with being spectators, not a chance. Even the beginners were asked to stir, chop and knead.
Meanwhile, it was time to bid Benoit Olivier farewell, at an intimate get-together last Friday. Everyone from interior designer Vikram Phadke to jazz musician Madhav Chari turned up. We bet that the charming and precise director of Alliance Francaise, having organised several winning cultural events in the city, will be missed. Wishing him all the best at the Université de Franche-Comté in Besançon, where he is headed.
