The latest iteration of the CLA maintains the model’s status as a gateway to the three-pointed star cars.
A NEW model of the Mercedes-Benz CLA has arrived in the Indian market, barely two years since the introduction of the car. The 2017 iteration of the entry-level sedan from the three-pointed star retains most of its signature sporty looks, albeit with a few minor tweaks.
The updates include refreshed LED head and tail lamps along with a new design front bumper and grille. The muscular, swooping side profile contributes to the CLA’s low drag coefficient of 0.25 – claimed to be the lowest for any production car. The car continues to run the 17-inch five-twin spoke alloys from the previous generation.

The controls for the screen, however, are rotary dials and not touch buttons. Dynamic Select is offered with four drive modes—Comfort, Sport, Eco and Individual (customised to the driver’s preferences). There are two engine options – a 1.9-litre turbopetrol that’s capable of 184PS and 300Nm of torque, and a 2.1-litre diesel that dishes out a lower 136PS. Mercedes claims a 0-100kmph time of 7.1 seconds and 9 seconds for the petrol and diesel engines, respectively.
While the petrol engine is only available in the Sport trim, the diesel is offered in two variants – Style and Sport. Transmission duties are carried out by a 7G dual clutch gear shift that’s claimed to deliver performance as well as better fuel economy. For a premium, Mercedes also offers the CLA with a Road And Track package, which features carbon fibre elements and racier decals on the bonnet and side.
