Taking stock of tracks that are rising steadily up the charts

Problem
Moving up four places to number three, Ariana Grande impresses with this uptempo number. Effortless vocals take centrestage and is backed by honking saxophone with verses by Australian rap artiste Iggy Azalea and Big Sean woven into the track.

A Sky Full of Stars
Lead singer Chris Martin’s dreamy vocals combine with Avicii’s musical style to slot this one into the EDM genre, while still retaining Coldplay’s signature laid back sound. Although Coldplay fans might not be thrilled with this song for its uncharacteristic lack of soul, it sure is an unforgettable number, that has climbed up seven places, to number 13.

Dare (La La La)
Shakira once again effectively blends Spanish musical elements with contemporary vibes to create this upbeat dance track that’s steadily climbing the charts. Currently at number 16, up from 20 last week, it will only ascend further after it was performed at the World Cup finale.

Bailando
Enrique Iglesias teams up with Sean Paul for this Spanglish number, currently at number 20, climbing up five places since last week. Interestingly, the sultry singer goes back to his roots to bring us something catchy, vintage and contemporary, all at the same time.

Hideaway
A fresh new face, Kiesza takes one back to the 90s with this track that takes inspiration from club classics with a distinct pop sound. Up from spot 27, the number is at number 22 this week and we’re sure the Canadian is here to stay.
