Block your dates next weekend, as Benoit Olivier, the director of Alliance Francaise, is ready with three big acts. Starting with Illusions on Black Top – a light-hearted show by a French theatre company, Aristobulle, is on October 17. The husband-wife duo, Renauld de Swetschin and Francois, are known for their theatrical performances, with characters who incorporate magic tricks in the plot.
They are bringing their act as part of a India tour — Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Allahabad and Kolkata. Coming to Chennai this weekend, the highlight of the event is when Renauld has his wife floating in the air on the tip of a stick. Next in line is a Bharatanatyam performance, Scent of the Earth, by renowned danseuse, Alarmel Valli on October 18. The performance is a celebration of nature, a tribute to the dynamic and creative interdependence between the innner and outer worlds. Olivier promises a jazz piano performance by Madhav Chari on October 19. The artiste will present the compositions of big artists like Gershwin, Cole Porter, Duke Ellington and Charlie Parker. “I will be playing like the artists you see in New York. I hope to play the best and with integrity,” says Chari.
