The partying started early this week, with everyone making the most of the day before the dry weekend. Nothing could stand in the way of good fun, not even lots of talk about Friday the 13th. Popular faces across the city were, in fact, using the opportunity to rally the troops to do their duty and cast their votes.
The fun began with a fashion show by Max at Express Avenue, where celeb mums and their kids modelled the Spring-Summer 2016 collection. It was a fun break from the usual, with the little ones giving the professionals a run for their money.
Then, it was Vivek Karuna-karan’s turn to entertain us all, at Illusions; not in his usual role, but as celebrity bartender, along with his partner-in-crime for the evening, Reshma Khan. Karunakaran took his job quite seriously, and proved he was more than up for the task. And I don’t just mean whipping up some seriously delicious cocktails, but giving us a taste of his flare for bartending as well. Meanwhile, across town at ITC Grand Chola, the launch of the Toyota Innova Crysta saw an exclusive evening for special guests who were treated to a performance by Yuvan Shankar Raja. No surprise that the venue was packed, with a mixed crowd of all ages. Raja’s set-list for the evening included modern takes on all his popular songs, including influences from all over the world. Performances by Tanvi Shah, Ranjith and his sister Bhavatharini were among the crowd favourites.
The trail of music ‘biggies’ continued at KM Music Conservatory’s annual event, which also included the inauguration of the Sunshine Mirchi Music Hall by legendary singer P Susheela. It was a touching tribute to her lifetime of work, with words of praise from AR Rahman himself — talking about their connection that goes way back. She made everyone’s day by singing a few lines from a few of her big hits, after which the stage was handed over to the students for showcasing a diverse range of music.
