MOTHER-daughter duo, Padmini and Kavya Chandra, is bringing down a special trunk show of saris, fabrics, ethnic and contemporary ensembles from their Bengaluru-based design house, Soulful Hues. Started by Padmini (52) over two decades ago, the studio received a
fresh design perspective with daughter Kavya (30) joining the team in 2012, bringing some quirky interpretations in ethnic ensembles.
The starting point
“I started this business with two tailors, an embroiderer and a pattern-maker in 1993, making custom-made clothes for women in Bengaluru out of a small unit in Domlur,” reminisces Padmini, the textile aficionado who has a 3,000 square feet studio, including a fabric section and 19 workers in the team. With their bridal and ethnic ensembles sought after by fashion-forward Bangaloreans, the studio has regular trunk shows across the country.
Besides fabrics from Benaras and Lucknow, one can expect beautiful hand-woven chanderi and Kota materials. “We work closely with weavers and karigars from all over the country to get limited-edition pieces for our studio,” adds Kavya, an MBA graduate. Exquisite handiwork like gota, patti and zardosi by their in-house karigars and the rich pinks and blues add a celebratory touch. The festive tomato-red Benares lehenga is bound to be a hit, as will the two-toned chanderi saris and shaded Kota silk saris. On March 11 and 12. At College Road. Rs 3,000 to Rs 25,000.
