Swiss gourmet ice creams hit town
Styled as a loungy cafe on bustling Lavelle Road, Moevenpick relaunches in the city after a long hiatus. And this time, they are taking their format beyond their signature icecreams and coffees. Think hot Belgian waffles served with crème brûlée ice cream or raspberry sorbet, piccolo coffee with three tasting scoops, or fresh fruit smoothies with a dollop of your favourite flavour.
As die hard fans of the creamy stuff, we decided to try out both the novelties as well as the classics we were familiar with. While the vanilla, strawberry and chocolate versions are spot-on, we suggest you get a little adventurous and try the tiramisu – a clear winner in our book, as well as the caramelita, blackcurrant, Macadamia, pannacotta or maple walnut.
But if you want to truly indulge, hit the sundae line-up — from the basic Denmark (vanilla with chocolate sauce, whipped cream, chocolate shavings and wafer rolls) and the caffeinated Ice Coffee (espresso croquant, coffee sauce, biscuit, whipped cream and wafers) to the more exotic Romanoff (served on a bed of strawberry slices, with strawberry sauce and whipped cream), Peach Melba (with poached pears, raspberry sauce and almond flakes) and the New Zealand (loaded with kiwi slices and sauce).
They also serve up fresh pancakes with an assortment of toppings, sparkling sorbets (sparkling water with a choice of berry sauce and a scoop of sorbet) and good old fashioned soda floats. An enviable range of coffees and shakes can also be found on the menu.
