Rimzim Dadu kickstarts the year by making a stop at Collage
Collage rings in 2015 with a new collection by My Village, the label belonging to Delhi-based designer Rimzim Dadu, on until January 15. Known for her quirky and whimsical design, her line includes dresses, skirts, tunics and shirts.
The young designer has dressed the likes of Anushka Sharma, Sonam Kapoor and Lisa Haydon over the years. With an obsessive attention to detail, Dadu’s garments pride themselves on being texturally unique, with amusing and interesting surfaces, which is the hallmark of a My Village piece, like the pale blue and jet black shredded cord chiffon sari worn by Kapoor, early last year.
The latest collection, features whimsical flowers and birds handcrafted on the garments with a mix of fabric components, so each piece becomes a kaleidoscope of colours and textures. Faux leather sequins, cut and dyed darker at the edges serve as offbeat embellishments, while intricate craft work adds a unique touch to the collection.
Perfect for a casual lunch date is an off white shirt, covered with handcrafted birds, flowers, leaves and branches in crimson, yellow, teal and green with pops of brown. A standout piece though is the leather ikat skirt and cut out dress. Drawing on double ikat weave of Gujarat which is interpreted in leather through fine cords in black, mustard yellow and red, they are painstakingly cut into different sizes and then appliqued to achieve the desired effect. We also suggest the faux leather burnt texture dress in off white, worn by Anushka Sharma.
