    Sign up for an unusual workshop this weekend and learn a new ‘home’ skill

    IF YOU are looking to get away for this weekend and learn a skill at the same time, read on. Each week, Auroville hosts several workshops that have both adults and children attending. But this week is all about going back to your roots. Starting with workshops on pottery and candle making, there is a training programme for bamboo furniture, too.

    Learn candle and incense making the traditional way by signing up for a training workshop in Auroville. You will be introduced to the community that makes candles and incense sticks and will learn how the products are made. You will be trained by the artisans themselves. Till November 30. At `500

    Want to try your hand at pottery? Then sign up for a class by Mohanam Cultural Centre. Participants will get to learn to make figures, tiles and tableware from clay and artisans from Pondicherry will train them, too. Till the end of this month. At `500.

    The Auroville Bamboo Centre is known to experiment with the grass to come up with new products like toys, home décor and even utensils. Aiming to share skill sets and knowledge, they are having a training programme in bamboo furniture this weekend. The class will be divided into theory, instruction, demonstration and practical work. They also have workshops for a day and more.
    For furniture enthusiasts, there is an exhibition by artiste Tejaswini Mistry Kapoor at Citadines Art Gallery, Auroville, featuring tables and chair with wood patterns on it. The work was done in Auroville over the past year.
