Saad Khan combines danger, mystery and quirk in his new film, Station
Upcoming director and theatre personality Saad Khan came up with the idea for Station after he stumbled upon a story about human dynamics between three strong personalities who dislike each other but are forced to spend time together in the same room. “There was something about that concept that appealed to me,” Khan tells us.
A psychological thriller, from the perspective of a criminal’s mind, the film revolves around three hitmen who have a job to finish at 2 am in a deserted railway station. “But everything that can possibly go wrong, goes wrong,” Khan hints about the plot. Another promising contribution to Hindi cinema from Bangalore, the film is being distributed by PVR Directors Rare and will be released in cities like Pune, Mumbai, Kolkata, New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Ranchi and Hyderabad as well. Starring theatre artistes Siddharth Sundar and Hardik Shah and model Sameer Kevin Roy as the three criminals, the cast also includes a femme fatale, played by Kanika Batra, a theatre personality and qualified lawyer from Bangalore.
The female character naturally adds more colour and value to the plot. “The characters of the four protagonists are very rich and detailed. They’re all very distinct with unique personalities and each with their own little quirks. That lends more depth to the story,” Khan informs us. Scheduled to release today, the film has already received positive reviews from the likes of Girish Kasaravalli, who describes it as “an enjoyable, slick thriller that is a must-watch for independent filmmakers and enthusiasts.”
Talking about his experience working with Ashutosh Gowariker on the sets of Abhishek Bachchan and Deepika Padukone-starrer Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey, Khan tells us of the ways of the well-known director. “I learnt the human element from him. He speaks to the light man the same way he speaks to an actor. When I told him about Station, his immediate reaction was ‘Why are you starting with a thriller?’. But a few seconds later he turned around and said he began his career as a director with a thriller too,” Khan shares.
