Liam Hemsworth on Independence Day, both at age 7 and now.

HOLLYWOOD actor Liam Hemsworth, in the news recently for his relationship with pop star Miley Cyrus, will be back on the screen with the much-awaited sequel to the 1996 cult classic Independence Day. Here, the 26-year-old Hunger Games actor talks about what it was like working with the original star cast and the challenges of special effects on the sets.

    Who is Jake Morrison?
Jake Morrison has a bit of a chip on his shoulder. He lost his parents in the first attack and sort of spent his life thinking about the return of these aliens and preparing for it. He joins the military and becomes a fighter pilot, quite a good one, but he makes a silly mistake and has his wings clipped temporarily when heas sent to the moon to work as a forklift driver.

How was it working with members of the original cast?
It was great. Jeff (Goldblum) is amazing. I had a few scenes with Bill (Pullman), heas such a genuinely kind and fascinating guy. I really enjoyed spending time with him after work. As President Whitmore, he gave one of the most iconic speeches weave ever heard in a film.

Youave had experience with movies that have visual effects. Was this one different?
It wasnat too different from TheA Hunger Games. Some amazing sets were built andA there are also a lot of special effects that come into play. The flying scenes were always tough because youare sitting in a spaceship set and then youave got to navigate your way through the scene just hoping for the best. You do feel quite vulnerable and out of place, because most of the time youare not reacting to another actor, youare reacting off what someone is telling you is happening, which is a whole different art.

How strange is it to appear in a sequel to something you watched as a child?
It was definitely a bit of a mind trip at first. I was seven years old when I saw the original film, so to be doing the second filmA20 years later, itas something I never dreamed of. It was a fun, exciting day turning up to work with Jeff and being part of this special, big, epic movie.

Titli actor Shashank Arora gears up to explore a new genre, with sex comedy Brahman Naman.

SHASHANK Arora is a busy man. While the star is excited about the upcomingAsex comedy,ABrahman Naman,Aby director Q (Quashiq Mukherjee), the 27-year-old actor is also starring in Rock On 2 and will share the screen with Irrfan Khan and Waheeda Rehman in The Song of Scorpions, which is directed by Anup Singh. There is more, the third movie in his kitty,ABicky, is the first Indian movie to be shot entirely on an iPhone! Here he talks to us about playing the protagonist inABrahman NamanAand is candid enough to admit, a?I think it will be a battle to get this movie commercially released in India.a?

      Quiz master
Not subjected to certification by CBFC yet, theAmovie is set to release worldwide on the online platform, Netflix, onAJuly 7. The filmApromises toAtake you back to the 1980s andA explores gender segregation and the social taboo that surrounds the topic of sex in the country. ThisA satire that made it to the Sundance Film Festival 2016 is written byANaman Ramachandran and is based on his formative years as a quizzer. TheATitliAactor essays a nerdy quizzer,Aalong with his friendsAAjay (Tanmay Dhanania) and Ramu (Chaitanya Varad). They wantAto win a quiz competition in Kolkata and aim to lose their virginity on the way.

      That 80s show
Arora, who played a totally different character inA TitliA explains,Aa?Content wise, Brahman Naman is as socially relevant as Titli. We Indians need to talk about sex. This movie also speaks about patriarchy very much likeATitliAbut uses comedy as a medium.a? Expect to seeAcomical sexual content like the lead character, NamanAmaking out with a fridge and a ceiling fan.AToAget into the skin of his character Arora watched several movies from the 80s, as he says quizzing was something he had to do some research on to try and understand Namanas passion. He adds that the movie is relevant to our times, as we still need a?to look at ourselves in the mirror before we get the dirt off our face.a?

      Online status
Talking about the release of the movieAonline,AArora feels that Netflix is already the next big thing and itas just that India is only catching up now. a?Comedy and cinema in general is a powerful medium which can be used not only to entertain but also affect the mindset of a civilization,a? signs off Arora.

        Officeras debut
Having composed music for the Suriya-starrer Shri about a decade ago, his training in music cannot be questioned. But the former Merchant Navy officeras ambition was to become a film director. Biding his time composing jingles for commercials and making short films, Ramnathan has finally made it. His debut film Vithaiyadi Naanunakku, releasing shortly, is a dark psychological thriller involving just two characters, with him essaying one of them. a?Itas a neo-noir style film,a? he informs. Intriguing and suspenseful, it has brilliant performances by the two actors.

        Yes, Minister
Kali Venkat who has played supporting characters in various films, gets to play one of the leads in Raja Mandhiri. The story, centered around two siblings, has Kalaiarasan of Madras fame playing the other role. Kali gets his own romantic track and a catchy song picturised on him too. a?I related to the role as the incidents seemed like those that had happened in my life,a? he says. The film, a rural- based entertainer (releasing today), is directed by debutant Usha Krishnan.

        After the wait
With his rising star status, a couple of films Bobby Simha had signed earlier and which got delayed due to various reasons, now seem to be making its way to theaters. Like Metro, where Simha plays the antagonist and shares frames with Shirish and Sendrayan. Directed by Ananda Krishnan (hitting theaters today), itas reportedly a stark and realistic depiction of a crime scene in a metro like Chennai. A bike-car chase is said to be one of the highlights of the film.

Whether or not the International Yoga Day inspired you to contort your body or huff out your breath, it certainly left me inspired. Or should I say amused? From politicos to stars to the toddler at the fancy play school, everybody rose up to the occasion literally across the city, as was instructed by the Prime Minister, a yoga enthusiast himself.
We witnessed actor Balakrishna, who is otherwise seen pounding over a dozen goons to pulp effortlessly onscreen, sweetly urging the people to stay healthy with daily yoga. If you thought yoga was a bit too slow and static for you, well then there were aerial yoga sessions – for those who seek action in yoga too – where people hang from the ceilings in awkward, yet fun poses. It suddenly reminded me of the circus trapeze act as a child.
From IT companies to the Cherlapally jail, one could see warriors, birds, snakes, downward dogs and more. I hope we all know those are English translations to various asanas. People are seeking the calmness and deliberate breathing yoga techniques in order to balance the hectic activity and fervour year long. That is the way it should be.
Have you realised how our weekends are busy with multiple things.A We are the city that willingly runs out of breath during marathon runs. We are also the same folks who form a human chain around the KBR park to protect trees. We love Raahgiris and car-free Thursdays. We agitate, pose, run, eat and celebrate with such involvement like not many other cities. I cannot imagine thisA energy in Mumbai which is too busy taking its last local to home. Bengaluru comes a close second to us. However, what draws our attention is that even street walks for causes in our city have a festive aura. The best part here is that none of this is taken to heart. Although we rise up to the occasion, life goes back to normal the very next day. The true essence of life is this I suppose. Involved, yet detached. On that philosophical note and moist eyes – proud of you my city.

Nobody talks of the delicicacies of this state, but Hyderabad Marriott Hotel is celebrating it with a pop-up

There are not many people who have heard of authentic Assamese cuisine as there are hardly any restaurants serving this food. To break the ignorance, Hyderabad Marriott Hotel at its restaurant Bidri has organised Assamese Pop-Up titled a?Khuwar Amez Louk’. They flew sous chef Kashmiri Nath from Assam.
Assamese has words similar to that of Bengali hence, you get to hear words like luci for luchi. Well, the starters had luci, aloo bhaji and bilahi ambol, Anguli Pitha, Bhaat Karela, Maas Khorika and Kukura Khorika. Best of the starters was luci with aloo bhaji. Puris were served with potato fries made Indian style relished as breakfasts in manyhomes. The main course was served in a thhali with fine steamed rice surrounded by steel katoris of Kukura Aloo Kurma, Fish Tenga, Maangsho Rongalu, Aloo Pitika, Bengena Pitika, Lou Bhoja, Omita Maahor Khaar, Masoor Dal, Xaak Bhaji. The desserts were the best as we tasted the same at the preview lunch. There was Komolar Kheer, Kola Bora Sawwal Paiyox, Narikol Pitha and Bora Sawaal. Komolar Kheer was nothing but kheer made with orange chunks cooked in thickened milk. What we also liked was Kola Bora Sawwal Paiyox which was a pudding of black rice. That had taken a deep pink after cooking.
The festival will be on till June 26. Charges: Rs 1,500++ taxes for the non-veg plated menu while for the veg menu it is `1,200++ taxes. Time: Both lunch and dinner
