Shantanu Maheshwari gears up for Season 9 of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.

WITH celebrity dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (JDJ) rolling out season 9 tomorrow, with a mix of actors, dancers, and even a chef as contestants. We spoke to Shantanu Maheshwari about his JDJ outing. The 25-year-old is most remembered as the shy Swayam of Dil Dosti Dance TV show, and founding-member of Desi Hoppers, the first Indian troupe to win the World Of Dance championship in LA last year, since its inception in 2008. His Desi Hoppers also became the first Indian crew to be invited to perform (their East-meets-West recital) on Americaas Got Talent reality show, last month.

            Eye on Hegde
Maheshwari, known for his popping and waving skills, is aware of the past JDJ results, which havenat been in favour of professional dancers (like Lauren Gottlieb). a?What I have understood about the show after joining it is that a contestant is marked on his/her progress as a dancer. It doesnat matter if I am a better dancer than others, what matters to the judges is if I perform better than what I did in the previous episodes.a?
In the opening episode, he will put up a freestyle act, and admits he wants to impress singer, choreographer Ganesh Hegde, who is one of the panellists. a?Heas a tough nut to crack,a? reasons the actor, currently seen as singer Sahir Bhasin on MTVas Girls On Top.
While Maheshwarias Americaas Got Talent outing is yet to be aired on Indian TV (weare two seasons away from the 11th he was invited for), he tells us that it is worth the wait. a?We got a thumbs up from all the four judges, including the difficult-to-impress Simon Cowell, and a standing ovation from the audience. Above all, we represented India on the world stage,a? says Maheshwari about the act which fused street hip-hop with Indian classical dance, and Hindi song Tukur Tukur with the Turn Down For What single. a?We are hoping that they will call us again for Level 2 of the competition,a? signs off the Kolkata boy.
Premieres July 30, 10 pm on Colors.

Manoj N Shyamalan on why Wayward Pines was never meant to be a movie

THE FICTIONAL town of Wayward Pines, its denizens living within an electrified fence under the close watch of Sheriff Arnold Pope (played by Terrence Howard), has been keeping viewers on their toes for the past nine episodes. It all ends here as Wayward Pinesa season two finale goes on air today. The final episode, Bedtime Story is all set to have the Abbies (creatures fenced out of Wayward Pines) descend upon the town and wreak havoc. Known for his supernatural plots like Unbreakable, Signs and The Village, director Manoj N Shyamalanas realistic visualisation of the Blake Crouch novel saw him nominated for the best science fiction television series award at the 2016 Saturn. At the end of the season, Shyamalan revealed his take on the series and the difficulties of getting a novel to television.

Why a television show and not a movie?
Blakeas novel is a set of giant ideas. If we did Wayward as a movie, Iad have just two hours to do all of that. Thatas so hard. And now we get to do the opposite, which is talk about this premise, what is it like to be the last group of people at Wayward Pines. Weare blessed to be making television or at least joining television for both of usait was the first show, Waywardaat a time where the formats were not prescribed to you.

What is it with you and Blakeas novels?
I read his most recent book. Finished it in three days over the weekend. I wonat say anything about it except that it was a killer. Wait till it comes out, itas another giant, giant idea.

              Putting together the showas writers?
It was originally tricky. Everybody that wrote on the show has their own shows. Everybody just took off and did their own stuff. Even actors Carla, Melissa and Terrence have their shows. This is ridiculous. a?Why didnat we lock all these people up?a I thought. Even the twinsaThe Duffer Brothers, who wrote five of the episodes in season oneaended up with their own show. So the challenge was, letas do the exercise all over again. Find a whole new group of writers and directors to work with. Eventually we found and have them all locked up and if we do a final third season, that comes handy.

Airs tonight at 10 pm on
              Star World Premiere HD

Athletes are not the only ones gunning for gold this time around, with fashion conglomerates and big names in couture designing their official gear. Team France – Felipe OliveiraABaptista for Lacoste
Felipe Oliveira Baptista from Lacoste has brought their signature style into play in their Rio 2016 collection. Their second collaboration with the French team has a crisp collection of thigh-length navy Macintosh and skinny white ankle-baring trousers, a windbreaker and sweatpants in white or blue and white shoes for the podium. Baptista, known for his athleisure expertise has focussed on functional aspects with zip-up sweaters and rain-resistant ponchos carrying the French flag colours of blue and white.

                  1Team Cuba – Christian Louboutin
Cuba joins the likes of USA, GB and Italy on the list of fashionable athletes at Rio with Christian Louboutin from France at the helm of the teamas official apparel. Teaming up with former French professional handball player Henri Tai, the French accessories designer has tried to integrate the classical clothing styles of the 50s with bold iconography in this pop-meets-athletic-chic collection with Guayabera shirt-inspired jackets in red for men and beige for women. The Cuban team will also see high top sneakers and loafers for the men and kitten heels for the ladies, flaunting Louboutinas signature red sole.

                  Team Italy – Giorgio ArmaniA2
Having pioneered red carpet fashion for over 30 years, Giorgio Armani is back with the Italian Olympic contingent for the third time (at London in 2012 and Sochi in 2014 previously). For the Rio 2016 collection, Emporio Armani 7 carries a strong minimalist vibe in its range of tracksuits, waterproof jackets with short and long sleeves, polo T-shirts, Bermuda shorts and cargo pants among others. The apparel come in signature Armani midnight blue bearing the EA7 and national Olympic committeeas logos. a?Fashion represents a great Italian flag for the whole world and it is a beautiful idea to combine it with sports,a? says the ace designer, even as some expressed disappointment that the green, white and red colours of their Aflag were not incorporated.

Team GreatABritain – StellaMcCartney for AdidasA3
Designer Stella McCartney and Adidas who are styling the British Olympians for the second time after 2012 have rung in a bold yet light collection to get athletes to the podium in style. While some find it a?skimpya, Tom Daleyas extra-short trunks did catch everybodyas attention. And McCartneyas new coat of arms for the collection and Union Jack-inspired palette has ticked all the right boxes.

Team USA – Polo Ralph LaurenA4
Olympic regulars Polo Ralph Lauren have a beach chic vibe going in their official ceremonial collection for USA at Rio this year. While the maritime-inspired look with button-ups over striped tees and chino shorts has been criticised for its generic designs, the funky calfskin boat shoes get a thumbs up. Rounded toes, rawhide laces and a padded leather insole, we like.

                  Team Canada – Dsquared2A5
While Hudsonas Bay has brought out their Rio sport gear, Canada turned to Dan and Dean Caten from Dsquared2 for their ceremonial wear . The team will walk out into the Maracana in a red tailored single-breasted blazer with a high-low cut, black rubberised buttons, ribbed cuffs and a zip pocket on the chest.

                  6Team Sweden – H&M
H&Mas Olympic gear-inspired line, For Every Victory, merges technical prowess and style. The collection brings the best of Olympic couture to their activewear with sports bras, jackets and graphic leggings among others using a muted dusty pink, grey and black colour scheme coupled with quick breathable material.

                  Team Australia – Toms
While the candy-stripe green seersucker jacket with white bottoms look has received lukewarm response, the white brogues by Toms, a socially conscious American accessories brand has caught our fancy from Australiaas Rio gear. Proceeds from sales go towards the benefit of disadvantaged children and communities.

7Functionality in fashion is a powerful marriage especially in the world of sports. The benefits and aesthetics are endless along with the pride of wearing the best from the country. Itas high time India puts up a power presence at the Olympics. aShivan&Narresh, fashion designers

9Athleisure has been a big trend and of course emphasis on sportswear is evident. Itas like wearing your workout wear all day long; think printed leggings paired with a denim jacket. H&M has created a specific line dedicated to Olympics. I donat think an event like this is about playing out fashion trends as much as it is to look cool and stylish.aMalini Banerji, fashion director, Elle India

I like the track and field look by H&M. The colour palette will work well with all skin tones. The collection speaks greatly about aggression with fluidity and stealth-like speed. aNikhil Mehra, Shantanu & Nikhil

Situated at Gandhi Nagar, the 48-seater vegetarian restaurant offers a carefully curated array of North Indian and South Indian delicacies. We find 108 handmade bronze bells at the entrance, along with walls with alternating brass panels and beige sandstone jaalis (windows). Prepare to be awed by the intricate pink sandstone pillars inspired by the Fatehpur Sikri palace and furniture inspired by the Nagarathar Chettiars. A fine silver bowl awaits with a saffron modak to start our meal for the evening. Kalkiraju, 29, who travels extensively, offers a long line of starters and I am impressed by the melting paneer saunfiya and the crisp cheese kurkuris. The wait for our mains is spent sipping on refreshing glasses of sweet and spicy strawberry chilli sherbet and the traditional thandai loaded with the richness of almonds. The hot idiyappam biriyani thatas best had with their vellai kolambu (boiled vegetables in thick coconut-cashew curry) is worth the wait. The mave ki paratha from their Delhi-inspired parathewale galli menu, with its sweet aftertaste is complemented with the kamal kakdi kofteh(lotus stem dumpling in Atomato gravy).
