Sterling Holidaysai??i?? latest property is a quaint resort in the midst of Ai??forested land and on a river bank

THERE are two things you must keep in mind when you head to Anaikatti-By The Siruvani ai??i?? firstly, be ready for really weak reception of mobile networks, and secondly, drive slow if you are making your way to the resort at night. We will get back to the reason behind the second condition a little later; but for now, know that the latest property by Sterling Holidays is not for those who are hoping to send work mails or make calls during their stay here. This is what I would call, the Great Escape. The earlier frustration of not being able to use my phone for anything worthwhile slowly made way for a kind of peace I did not expect during my two-day stay here. Add to that the marvellous view from my roomai??i??the beautiful Siruvani River filling the air with the refreshing sound of gushing water coupled with the mighty Western Ghats in all its glory. Not intending to waste even a second of my time there, I immediately check in, have lunch at the in-house restaurant (more about the food later), and step out to explore the property. But before that, a brief introduction is in order.
Inside story
Anaikatti-By The Siruvani is Sterling Holidayai??i??s 31st resort in the country, with other properties including Darjeeling Khush Alaya, Dindi By The Godavari, Ooty Elk Hill, Yercaud Rock Perch and others. Previously Aqua Flow resort (now leased to Sterling), it is located in a village called Kottathara in Wayanad. Its 33 rooms are housed inside fashionable wooden cottages, and are evenly spaced out inside the property, while the pool, restaurant and coffee shop, gym, activity centre and mini-golf arena are all ensconced at a comfortable distance from each
other. There is also a play area for kids (with swings for example), while the benches outdoors provide quick respite to senior citizens. The rooms are equipped with all basic amenities (including a microwave, safety locker, and a mini-bar), and has a rustic feel thanks to wooden interiors.
Plated perfection
On the menu, expect a fine balance of Kerala and Tamil Nadu cuisine, with more variety shown in the former. Regional
specialities like avial, Malabar fish curry and kozhi varutharacha curry will impress any Keralite. As for Tamilians, names like baby corn varuval, vendakkai moru kuzhambu and poriyal are ready to tempt. Breakfast options are aplenty, with a cinnamon French toast sharing space with South Indian staples like idlis, dosas and medu vadas. But, if you take my word, you wonai??i??t be disappointed if you wish for fishai??i??the sea food at the restaurant has variety, tastes wonderful and is a must-try.
Pamper station
One of the most sought-after services will be provided at the spa, where Ayurveda takes centrestage. Procedures on offer include abhyamgam, shirodhara (liquids like oils, milk and coconut water are poured on the forehead), marma massage, and a hand/foot
massage called hasta pada abhyanga and podikizhi (medicated powders soaked in oils are applied over specific areas). Besides this, there are also international treatments where fragrant oils are used.
Hit the road
For thrill-seekers, the jeep safari into the inner areas of the nearby forests is a must. If lucky, you will spot native
animals like wild boars, deer and bison, and (on a more cautious note, if I might add) you might spot an elephant or two taking a stroll across the road to the river. During the day, you can visit tourist hotspots like the Silent Valley National Park and Kovai Kutralam, while back at the resort, activities like magic show and traditional games promise to keep guests of all ages occupied through the day. Now, whoai??i??s planning a

    Director: Robert Zemeckis
    Cast: Brad Pitt, Marion Cotillard

The movie traces the story of intelligence officer Max Vatan and his encounter with French Resistance fighter Marianne Beausejour on a dangerous mission. The duo find themselves before each other again in London, except this time, their relationship faces the pressures of war. Cotillardai??i??s and Pittai??i??s chemistry was rumoured to be a contributing factor to the latterai??i??s public divorce.

    Director: J A Bayona
Cast: Sigourney Weaver, Felicity Jones, Liam Neeson
Based on Patrick Nessai??i?? novel of the same name, the movie follows a boyai??i??s attempts to take assistance from a tree monster to deal with his motherai??i??s terminal illness and attacks by a local school bully.
Did you know: This will be the third time that Liam Neeson has voiced a CGI character. The first time was for Aslan in the three Chronicles of Narnia movies and the second was Good Cop/Bad Cop in The Lego Movie.

Jennifer Lawrence on her new film Passengers and playing the ambitious Aurora Lane

While 26-year old Jennifer Lawrence hasnai??i??t managed to land that fairytale kiss on New Yearai???s Eve, if her rant to Seth Meyers on his show is something to go by, the actorai??i??s easy chemistry with Chris Pratt has been the talk of the town when on a promotional spree for their film, Passengers. After a strenuous shoot schedule which involved nearly drowning the Hunger Games actor to get the zero gravity sequences right, she is finally taking a well-deserved break with rumoured beau, filmmaker and environmentalist Darren Aronofsky in New York City. With the movie releasing today, she talks about its concept and getting into the shoes of her character.

What about the idea of this trip intrigued you?
I found the characters in this story intriguing because itai??i??s such a huge decision to make a 120-year journey that when you arrive back home, everyone you know is going to be dead. So you have to start a brand new life on a brand new planet that youai??i??ve never been to. Of course, there are going to be interesting characters, and people risking a new life, who would be involved in a decision like that.
What is your character Aurora like?
Aurora is planning on being the first person to ever travel to the new colony world, and take a 120-year journey and then 120 years back ai??i?? and she wants to be the first person to make that journey, so that she can write about life in the colonies and returning back to earth.

What do you think made Aurora take the decision to set off?
I think Auroraai??i??s very smart, driven and curious. Sheai??i??s also the daughter of a very famous author, which I think always keeps her wanting more and wanting to have her own name. So, I think all of these combined with an adventurous spirit sent her off.

Would you ever be able to go on a trip like this?
No, I canai??i??t imagine saying goodbye to everybody that I know and love. I mean, I do that, I feel, when I film a movie. So I guess in that sense I could understand Auroraai??i??s drive, her thirst for more. But, making that kind of permanent decision, I donai??i??t think I would be able to do that. It would depend on how bad things are on earth.

Vivek Siva on choosing to be picky with scripts Coreglow pebbles for sale
After producing and mixing songs for the whoai??i??s who of the Tamil film industry, Vivek Siva and Mervin Solomon are basking in the success of the first single from their upcoming film Dora. Talking about the movie, Vivek says, ai???After Pugazh, we received a call for a script reading. When we knew that Nayanthara was a part of it, knowing her knack of picking great stories, we just had to take it.ai??? Having made the conscious decision to pick movies where the soundtrack plays an integral part in the story, the duo are very choosy about their projects.

ai???Each movie expects a different essence from you. We love challenging ourselves and exploring genres and ideas weai??i??ve not done before. We donai??i??t want to keep doing similar movies or tracks even if the names are big. A typecast is no boon,ai??? adds the 25-year-old music producer and sound engineer.
Working on the movieai??i??s album for close to six months now, the duo are all set to release the second single from the movie today. Called Vaazhavudu, reminiscent of one of actor Ajithai??i??s signature lines, the song traces the journey of an underdog who just wants to be left alone. ai???This is Nayantharaai??i??s introduction song in the film and is an out-and-out commercial number,ai??? adds Vivek, who has also crooned for the song. ai???Cinema is a great medium because you donai??i??t have a genre restriction,ai??? says Vivek as he talks about Mohini, the duoai??i??s second big project this year. Although a true-blue horror flick, he asks us to expect a mixed bag with something for everyone ai??i?? from a melody to a club number. The duo have also resolved to make more time for their independent music, hinting at some exciting collaborations in the coming months.

Dora is expected to release in February

Impeccably shot fight scenes and a strong patriotic essence underline the Dangal experience. While the movie has stirred up a dichotomy of perspectives on women empowerment and patriarchy, it certainly lives up to the year-long hype. Despite a powerful performance by Aamir (his best in many years), Fatima Sana Shaikh and Zaira Wasim (who play both the elder and younger Geeta) truly steal the show.

Coumadin overdose treatment guidelines Guneet Monga talks about preparing for the Oscars and her latest project

WHEN Nawazuddin Siddique and Shweta Tripathi-starrer Haraamk-hor walked away with a Silver Gateway Award at the 17th Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival a few months ago, there was more to celebrate. A teacher-student love story set in rural India, the film, directed by debutante Shlok Sharma, predictably found itself rubbing the Censor Board on the wrong side, with the latter refusing to certify the film.

After being offered an A certificate with five massive story-altering cuts to negotiating a UA certificate from the Film Certification Appelate Tribunal, the film, as its producer Guneet Monga (the name behind stellar films like Masaan and Gangs of Wasseypur) confirms, is all set to hit theatres next week. Here she talks to us about the experience of this film and what the new year holds for her.

            No cuts, please

ai???The whole Censor Board fiasco was shocking. We didnai??i??t understand why we were told we wouldnai??i??t get certified right in the first round,ai??? says the co-founder of Sikhya Entertainment. The film was crowd-funded, meticu-lously planned and shot in 16 days and promoted thereafter. She echoed the concerns of many filmmakers including former business partner Anurag Kashyap as she pointed out, ai???What is it that people canai??i??t see in 2016-2017, when digital explosions are happening all over? We are filmmakers and we want to communicate. None of these are vanity projects.

When itai??i??s nipped in the bud for no reason, it irritates everyone. We spend so much time and effort in trying to tell a story and can never be prepared for a butchering.ai???
            Courting prestige
Guneet, who was busy promoting Visaranai until earlier last month, isnai??i??t disheartened by the countryai??i??s run at the Oscars, calling it a step in the right direction. ai???One thing we can and should do is probably approach American distributors to be a part of our project.

Oscars are an American award, so we have to catch the market,ai??? adds the BAFTA nominee. Lauding the Malayalam, Tamil and Marathi film fraternities for the quality content they are churning out, she picks Vasanthabalan as a filmmaker sheai??i??d love to collaborate with. Guneet is looking to experiment with other languages and has two English films ai??i?? The Ashram with Radhika Apte and Kal Penn, and Darkness Visible with Sayani Gupta in the making.

                Good endings
2017 hopefully will have an answer to the question that had frequently popped up during the year gone by and on various platforms. Even Hindi TV channels in their reality and chat shows had brought up this question, ai???ai???Why did Kattappa kill Baahubali?ai??i??ai??i?? We had earlier asked Satyaraj, who played Kattappa, but all that we managed to elicit from him was a boisterous laugh. With Baahubali 2 planned for a 2017 release, weai??i??ll finally get to know the answer. And with Anushkaai??i??s backstory to be revealed too, the actor who made a brief appearance as the queen condemned to a pitiable life in chains would find her space here.

Speaking of sequels, there are a few lined up this year. One of them is the sequel to Madurai ai??i?? Theni Vazhi Aandipatty. A delightful little film, it is centred on romance during a bus journey. But the sequel has quite a few changes. For one, itai??i??s SPS Guhan, the producer-cinematographer of the earlier film, who helms the sequel. The lead pair is a fresh one. Says Guhan, ai???Except for the bus journey, which this time takes a return route, the plot and characters are unconnected to the earlier one.ai??i??ai??i?? Going by the films she has to offer this year, it seems like Nayanthara is all set to consolidate her position as the top heroine of Tamil screen. After Maya and Kashmora, the actor will be seen in yet another ai???ghostly actai??i?? in Dora. And there is the psychological thriller Kolaiyuthir Kaalam. Aram has her playing a district collector, and in the crime-thriller Imaikka Nodigal , she essays a cop.
