    NO STRANGER to the fashion pop up, Chennai most recently saw outfits like FunkyFish and The Armoire present the temporary retail concept to eager crowds. The newest such offering is Stylista’s Pop Up at Maalgaadi, yet another quirky address gaining many followers. Located in Besant Nagar, Shahin Ansari’s store can be counted on to tap the newest fashion trends in Mumbai and Delhi, be it for clothes, jewellery or other accessories. From names fresh out of Lakme Fashion Week, like the clothing brand, Ezra, to concept jewellery Cicory Chai, or even blended teas and special stationery, you will find them all here. This season, she is bringing down the e-commerce website Stylista, just in time for us holiday shoppers. Stylista has a curated line featuring edgy designers like Masaba Gupta, Shivan and Narresh, Nishka Lulla and Yogesh Chaudhary, to name a few. Plus, with this being Maalgaadi’s second year anniversary, there is 30 per cent off on store merchandise. Affordability is key
    The pop up from Stylista is priced from `5,000 onwards and Pooja Dadlani, its CEO, explains that once designers hand over the sketches of their collection, Stylista sends back a rough sample for approval and fine-tuning. “Designers are waking up to the demand of high street fashion and are going beyond occasion-based apparel,” she says. Back this process with the expertise of 25-year-old garment manufacturer, Biharilal Fashion in Mumbai, and you understand the affordable price points.

For instance, Yogesh Chaudhary’s popular Pac-Man print on crop tops and drop waist dresses will be seen here. “I think outer space themes are going to have a big influence on the trends of 2016,” he predicts. Veterans like Wendell Rodricks offer solid coloured dresses with delicate embellishments, while the vibrant Masaba brings her colour blocking designs, featuring vintage prints of TVs, knives and retro typewriters on fun skater dresses, dhoti skirts, pants and jackets. “Chennai is price sensitive and while they might very well purchase a designer pret outfit worth `25,000, they also want the option of an outfit within `10,000 that is wearable. Stylista has commissioned leading designers and has come up with exclusive collections only available under their brand name. Where will you find an outfit from Masaba or Nishka Lulla for `5000?” Ansari asks. Incidentally, her Maalgaadi has plans to go the e-commerce route by the end of the month.
