Style Bazaar debuts in the city with 60 designers and something for everyone
WITH the city abuzz with fashion weeks and exhibitions, designers now have a new platform for showcasing their collections. Style Bazaar, an exhibition organised by Sheetal Jain (who has earlier organised Akritti exhibitions) focusses on bringing new designs to the city, with their first edition. “We want Chennai to be in tune with the style of today. Most often, we receive new designs much later than Mumbai and Kolkata. Our aim is to put Chennai on the same page as the rest of the country by getting the best of styles from everywhere,” says Jain, who has handpicked 60 designers from all over the country, including Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur, Kolkata and Hyderabad.
The two-day exhibition will showcase saris, suits, kurtis, bags, footwear, home decor and jewellery, with brands like Golden Weaves from Delhi bringing down party gowns and Rachna’s Boutique from Bengaluru offering pure cotton dresses with block prints, while Neha from Mumbai showcases the latest styles of dhotis. “This is a platform for the designers, especially for city-based ones, bringing them closer to audience who can buy their products. I want to be instrumental in creating the bridge,” says Jain, whose next stop is Kochi or Jaipur. For those who can’t make it to the exhibition, download their app (available from October) that will have all the collections from the participating designers. In addition to the exhibition, a style icon award will also be given to the best fashionista in the city.
