What to expect at the second Jodhpur One World Retreat, with Amitabh Bachchan on the guest list and Christie’s setting up shop
Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, the Ambanis, the Duke of York, even rock / pop sensation Sting — the first edition of the Jodhpur One World Retreat (JOWR) in 2013 saw stars descend on the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Rajasthan. But let’s be clear, this event founded by Maharaja Gajsingh II of Jodhpur is as much about a cause as it is about attracting famous people. Scheduled for a second edition on March 20, the three-day event is organised to raise awareness and resources for the Indian Head Injury Foundation (IHIF), also founded by the Maharaja after his son’s accident on the polo field in 2005.
Lend an ear
Besides auctions and musical performances, the second edition of JOWR will feature addresses by the likes of Dr Jamshid Ghajar, president of the Brain Trauma Foundation USA, a spiritual awakening session with Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev of the Isha Foundation and a panel discussion with the secretary of road transport, among others. While the subject of the discussion will be ‘reduction of mortality and traumatic injuries through road safety’, the session by Vasudev, titled The Mind and You, will delve into understanding the human mind. It will explore the mind both from the perspective of neurological sciences as well the yogic stand point. “The most miraculous thing in this existence in terms of instruments, is not the computer, car or spacecraft, but the human mind. It is the most miraculous thing if only you could use it consciously,” Vasudev gives us a glimpse into what to expect at his session.
Bid for an experience
With the idea of building a ‘cerebral finale’, the organisers have roped in the Shillong Chamber Choir, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and Bollywood legend, Amitabh Bachchan. But before that, all eyes will be on 11 ‘priceless experiences’ that Christie’s will be auctioning, with proceeds going to the IHIF. Moving away from art and antiques, the auction house has curated experiences like the Dine with Aristocracy and Art at Christie’s, where the highest bidder gets to discuss collecting and art with Viscount Linley, nephew of Her Majesty The Queen and Christie’s chairman. Or the Judi Dench experience, that gets you top seats at a West End theatre event, co-starring Judi Dench, followed by exclusive back-stage drinks with the star herself. Oh, and we also hear that Raghavendra Rathore and JJ Valaya have a treat in store.
