Some weeks just fly by in a tizzy, and the last one fit that bill perfectly. After a grueling few weeks of juggling play practice deadlines and a family that demands your attention, it was great to be able to unwind and relax a bit.
But when one is enjoying oneself, the minutes and hours in that week just whiz by don’t they? After a fairly successful fund raising theatre event, my family decided they wanted some private down time. So, over red wine sangrias and chicken cacciatore at Smoke House Deli, my kids and I argued, laughed uproariously and cemented our bonds over coffee and dessert. With a warm fuzzy feeling in my heart, my faith in the age-old adage was reaffirmed — A family that argues together, stays together!
The next afternoon, I toddled off to meet my favourite designers Susan Fernandes and Anu Nagappa to enjoy a champagne brunch with them at Susan’s beautiful home. They had assembled a couple of designers who made bespoke handbags and stunning jewellery that complimented their beautiful new prêt line of clothes for the ongoing festive season. Needless to say, with a resigned sigh, I succumbed to all that irresistible temptation, and walked away with a big bundle of goodies under my arm.
Good friend and travelling companion, Sumitra Senapathy, the founder of the WOW (Women On Wanderlust) Club, invited the ‘pink’ (her favourite colour) ladies to a small soirée at home. It was wonderful to see a gaggle of women wanderers, all animatedly talking about their forth coming trips or the fabulous vacations they had just returned from. It’s great to see women, ranging from working professionals to housewives, so excited at the prospect of exploring the world on their own terms.
Here’s a thumbs down to all the jaded men who think that when women get together, one can only see fur fly. People who say that, ‘the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach’ are wrong. You can warm the cockles of my heart by feeding me too! That’s exactly what happened at Alba, the new Italian restaurant at the JW Marriott. I was invited to be a part of the chef’s table, where the delectable new Italian chef Bruno Ferrari (even his name goes vroom) played host.
The dishes were irresistible as was the chef. One didn’t know whether to compliment the dishes or eye the ‘dishy’ Bruno!
