Vishakha and Praneet Kumat bring a bridal couture brand to the city.
WITH Diwali shopping peaking this season, four-year-old Mumbai brand Sionnah picked the right time to open in the city with its festive range of lehengas, saris, footwear and accessories. The franchise is owned by city-based entrepreneurs, Praneet and Vishakha Kumat. Vishakha, 26, who moved to Chennai six months ago with her husband, shares why Sionnah is the need of the hour. “During my visits here, I noticed that whenever there is a wedding, the bride went to Mumbai or Delhi to shop. So I decided to come up with something that caters to that need,” she says.
Created by designers who also work with names like Manish Malhotra, Anita Dongre and Tarun Tahiliani, find lehengas in chiffon, velvet and georgette, with intricate designs and hand embroideries. The duo have sourced their contemporary bridal jewellery from Jaipur, while the footwear is from New Delhi. “I ensure that every piece is customised, right from Benarasi saris to the light kurtis,” shares Vishakha, who also co-owns a wholesale furniture business with her husband. An ardent follower of Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s designs, she adds that they plan to expand to Bengaluru and Hyderabad soon.
