The first edition of the Global Sound Festival offers a heady cocktail of genres
PROMISING a truly global experience, Swetha Sada, the managing director of Sparkkz, which is organising the first edition of the Global Sound Festival (GSF), says, “It will be very different from the music fests that have been held at VGP Golden Beach Resorts in the past.” We have seen events like Go:Madras, which is EDM specific, and the Surf Music Festival, which has bands and trance. But GSF brings all the genres to one address, with DJs like Basshunter from Sweden as the headliner, and others like Kash Trivedi, Sound Avtar, DJ Chubby, Thermal Projekt and Candice Redding performing. “We’ll have EDM, trance, dubstep, house and commercial. There is no one sound. And it is not just a concert, we’ll also have a food zone that will offer drinks and starters, like burgers. There will be a gaming zone, a selfie counter and an accessory shop with fun T-shirts,” shares Sada, who is expecting around 5,000 people at the event. It will alsosee visuals arranged by Bangalore-based VJ Harish and bl!nk. “We have some new custom-made content. Since I work closely with a lot of international DJs (like EVP), we will be unleashing some new visuals. We are also working on new concepts with LED and will be introducing LED mapping,” says Harish. According to Chennai-based DJ Chubby, who will serve up house, the hottest tunes of the season are All I Want – Dosem Remix and House Record by Steve Lawler. The Thermal Projekt (Shuvro Talukder and Anurag Sen) will be offering electro-house. “We’d rather call it Thermal music. We’re also working on an album which will be out in six months,” concludes Talukder, adding that the track to look out for is Runaway by Galantis (Quintino Remix).
