As the awards season begins, we pick artistes who are just a win away from joining the likes of Whoopi Goldberg and Audrey Hepburn in the EGOT club ai??i?? the select group who have won the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.

    Cyndi Lauper
Cyndi Lauper needs no introduction. The 63-year-old American singer, actor and LGBT activitist is a 15-time Grammy nominee, with two wins for Best New Artist and best Musical Theatre Album for Kinky Boots, the Broadway musical that also got her a Tony for Best Original Score. Her sole Emmy victory was in 1994, for the American sitcom Mad About You. But considering that she has featured in 12 movies so far, we think she is well-poised to win an Oscar, only if she chooses more significant roles than the cameos she has mostly done so far (Prime Cuts, Sesame Street: Elmocize).

    Martin Scorcese
Much has been said about Martin Scorceseai??i??s long wait for his first Oscar, which he got for his sixth nomination in 2007 (The Departed). He has since won nominations for Hugo and The Wolf of Wall Street. Whatai??i??s missing in his EGOT kitty is a Tony. He has already won two Emmy awards for Boardwalk Empire and George Harrison: Living in the Material World. His Grammy win came along with the legend Bob Dylan, based on whose life the director made a documentary, titled No Direction Home.

    Helen Mirren
She is one of the most celebrated actors in Hollywood, and if thereai??i??s anything that the 71-year-old English actor hasnai??i??t won, it is the Grammy. While the Oscar went for her remarkable lead performance in the 2006 movie, The Queen, Helenai??i??s Tony win was credited to her Broadway performance in The Audience. As for an Emmy, she has a stunning four wins out of 11 nominations. Back in 2015, when she got her first Tony win, she told Time magazine that she is thinking about releasing an audio book. We are eagerly waiting.

    Al Pacino
Need we say more about this legendary actor? The 76-year-old American actor, who got his only Oscar yet (out of eight
nominations) for his role in Scent of a Woman, is just a Grammy away from making it into the EGOT list. His Tony wins have come for The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel and Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie, while TV films like You Donai??i??t Know Jack and Angels in America (mini series) have got him two Emmy awards.

    Maggie Smith
One of the most respected British actors in the industry, 82-year-old Maggie Smith has got six Oscar nominations so far, out
of which she has won two (The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and California Suite). She has also won the Emmy four times and one Tony award. We really do not know how she will win the Grammy, but if she does, it will be a marvellous addition to her awards list.

    John Williams
Having bagged his 50th Academy Award nomination (for Star Wars: The Force Awakens), the iconic composer is one of the favourites to win the golden statuette. Besides this, the 85-year-old also has three Emmy wins and 22 Grammy Awards (Schindlerai??i??s List and Saving Private Ryan, among others). Whatai??i??s left is a Tony. If he does win it, he will be the second John Williams to win a Tony. The first being the yesteryear English actor who played the role of Hubbard in Alfred Hitchcockai??i??s classic, Dial M For Murder.

    Kate Winslet
If thereai??i??s an award that Kate Winslet has not won, it is the Tony. The 41-year-old even won a Grammy for contributing to a spoken word album titled Listen to the Storyteller: A Trio of Musical Tales from Around the World. This apart, her seven Oscar nominations (won for The Reader) and her Emmy win for the HBO drama, Mildred Pierce, make her one of the most versatile actors of our generation. Can the Revolutionary Road actor claim her EGOT slam?
    Only time will tell.
