Head to Raintree for sustainable wardrobe options for the winter by The Shop, Delhi
Eco-fashion stalwarts The Shop are in the city with a special winter edit of apparel, home decor and gifts for the festive season. Founded by Preminder and Kamal Singh in 1969, what started as a small fabric and apparel business now boasts clients such as Zara (Home), Neiman Marcus, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, and many more. Highly regarded for their vibrant
discharge prints and hand-crafted fabrics, The Shop’s director Kabir Singh (43) shares, “When my parents started their work, it was to give weavers and artisans the opportunity to continue with their rich legacy of work.” Over 40 years later, the Delhi design outfit continues to work with master craftsmen from across the
country, producing fabrics that are replete with history and colour. Singh and his wife Aishwarya Kumar (37), who oversees the design, present this special winter collection made from hand-quilted Gudri, Bandhej fabric, cotton-satin and cotton slub. “All the fabrics used for our latest ‘Nomad’ Collection are slightly heavier in weight for the cooler weather. The Gudri is made from vintage fabrics that are beautiful, while having the lowest environmental impact,” says Singh. In keeping with The Shop’s joyous aesthetic, expect to see colourful jackets, stoles and dupattas with embroidery and bright florals on tops, kurtas and boxers. We also liked the ikat-inspired table cloths, embroidered quilted mats and eye-catching evening potli bags which make wonderful gifts.
With operations in Delhi/Noida and four shops in NCR and Mumbai, Singh tells us that he hopes to share their beautiful things at a stand-alone store in Bengaluru soon.
