Our weekend included a heavy dose of fashion, with multiple events across the city. It started off with the Madras Bridal Fashion Show at Le Royal Meridien, choreographed by Sunil Menon and conceptualised by Shanmugapriya. Anjalee and Arjun Kapoor opened the two-day event with their collection titled Persian Flora. We were treated to intricately worked cocktail gowns and flowing skirts, with actress Sneha ending the show in a heavily-embroidered lehenga. The back-to-back sequences saw showstoppers galore with Regina Cassandra for Sidney Sladen, Rai Lakshmi for Rehana Basheer and Nikki Galrani for Naushija, with her stunning Mughal-inspired line. And it wasnat just about Middle Eastern influences, with Shravan Kumar giving us some serious South Indian flavour and a slightly different take on bridal trends, with his ode to weavers. His detailed trousseau collection saw everything from tailored jackets to evening gowns in chanderi silk and Banarasi brocade.
Meanwhile, across town, another bunch of a?party peepsa were at Illusions for Fashion Friday with Jackie Besterwich. The supermodel, who was also the celeb bartender for the evening, got the crowd going, giving out prizes for the best and most uniquely dressed, along with her signature style tips for teenyboppers. No surprise that they were lining up for selfies as well.
Friday also marked the opening of the 10th edition of Thailand Week at Express Avenue, with Krongkanit Rakcharoen, the Consul General of the Republic of Thailand, doing the honours. While we got to indulge in shopping, food and foot massages, the real treat came in the form of the performances. First up was a selection of traditional dances. One style saw the dancers incorporating coconut shells to create the rhythm. Taking things up a notch was the Muay Thai, where we were given a brief introduction to the world-renowned martial arts form. While the team assured us that it was just a friendly demo, it looked pretty hardcore to me. We cheered loudly while preferring to maintain a safe distance!
Saturday was dedicated to learning about holistic wellness at the second edition of the Radiant Wellness Conclave. While author-TV host Vir Sanghvi, one of the panellists, talked about the need for nurturing creativity and keeping our minds active by participating in cultural activities, actor R Madhavan spoke about the importance of eating right for a healthy life.
