Celebrate the joy of Christmas this season, with Mellow Circle’s new play
Mellow Circle is back with their annual Christmas play — Skipping Christmas. Directed by veteran theatre personality Hans Kaushik, the play is an adaptation of a John Grishan novel by the same name, which was later made into a film. “It’s a complete celebration of Christmas, it’s a feel-good play. I wouldn’t like to call it a musical, but yes, there are lot of songs, drama and comedy in the play,” says Kaushik, who adds that it is a nice blend of the book and the film.
The story revolves around Luther and Nora who realise that they spend too much money on Christmas. So, they decide to skip Christmas and instead go on a Caribbean Cruise. To the couple’s chagrin, their neighbours are appalled and strongly object to their decision to boycott the festivities. The plot turns with their daughter Blair surprising them with a call on Christmas Eve to tell them that she is coming home to celebrate Christmas. “The movie has Tim Allen playing the lead role. I loved the story and a lot of people, I am sure, would be able to relate to it,” says Kaushik.
The music is done by Augustine Paul and it is being adapted by Rajiv Rajendra. Around 17 actors from Mellow Circle have been roped in for the play. This is part of the annual fund raising programme for Prathyasha, a home for HIV affected children.
To be staged at the Museum Theatre, from November 22-24, including a show for School children today. Tickets at Rs 300, Rs 600 and Rs 1,000, available at Landmark. Details: 9003092450
