Women of substance, Sushmita Sen, Shilpa Reddy and Lavanya Tripathi, show us how it’s done on the runway
It was a week of charity, celebrations and celebrities. The Taj Falaknuma Palace hosted a fund-raiser fashion show and I was there to cover and attend the gala event.
The best thing about this whole affair was that form and function came together perfectly! I mean the cause was a serious one: to take up the case of better education in government schools, Teach for Change’ . But the fashion show was lively, fun and colourful.
Designer Shilpa Reddy put together the ensemble for each of the participants. The multi-faceted Lakshmi Manchu was totally in her element leading this initiative. The most wonderful thing was how Hyderabad came forward to support this by buying the passes, without expecting freebies.
Priced quite steep, the pass entitled each one to witness the show and dine at the lavish 101-seater world’s longest dining table built by the Nizam. Naturally, the table stands as a symbol of pride, luxury and lavishness.
Actors Rana, Adivi Sesh to Lavanya Tripathi and many more arrived promptly at the green room to get dressed by professional stylists.
After a light, healthy snack prepared by holistic nutritionist Sridevi Jasti, they all lined up diligently like school kids at the annual day. They put aside starry airs to be there totally in spirit and letter.
The high point of the event was show-stopper Sushmita Sen walking in with her million dollar smile and lighting up the room. Lakshmi Manchu was at her best-speaking confidently and passionately about the cause. With Pinky Reddy, Geeta Reddy and more socialites the event was even bigger than regular Page 3 event.
We all got a chance to see the human side of our stars and how fun and cause can come together to bring in purpose to celebrating.
The force behind this mega event was of course- not a star or a politico but a common Hyderabadi called Chaitanya who just decided to make a difference.
He envisioned, stars cooperated, sponsors came forward and the whole universe conspired!
Now imagine if we had a hundred more Hyderabadi hearts dreaming away? What a phenomenal difference that could make! Inspired?
