A BBQ truck that offers the city a new culinary experience
Bringing the concept of a food truck to the city for the first time is Siddhanth Sawkar with The Spitfire BBQ Truck. Currently stationed in Indiranagar with plans to make stops at other localities in the city in the near future, the truck offers a small yet delicious menu with barbecue classics like New York Hotdog, BBQ Garlic Butter Chicken Wrap, Chicken Coleslaw Burger, BBQ Chicken Steak Burger and Fresh Garden Vegetable Burger. “I actually have been a caterer, setting up barbecues at parties for a really long time. But business was not as quick as I hoped it would be. That’s when I thought about bringing barbecuing to the public through a truck,” Sawkar explains.
A delicious, healthy and fresh dining experience, the breads and buns are baked by Sawkar himself and the vegetables that go into each dish are brought in from his farm in Tumkur.
“We try to use farm fresh produce as much as possible, but sometimes they run out so we get them from a supplier. However, we always ensure they’re really fresh and match our quality standards,” he informs us.
On Sawkar’s recommendation, we ordered the BBQ Chicken Steak Burger and the New York Hotdog. In less than five minutes, our orders arrived, neatly served in little plastic containers that could easily be folded up and taken home, in case eating out on the street is not really your thing. The burger was light and delicious, with vegetables that were fresh and crunchy, the chicken juicy with a dollop of mayonnaise and the bun soft and fluffy – perfect for an early evening snack.
The New York Hotdog was also quite impressive and not Indianised, with just the right amount of mustard and tomato ketchup. Even the sausage retained its juiciness, and tasted like it should, not over-cooked or over-processed.
