    Kava offers a delectable spread – perfect for a laid back Sunday brunch

    Always up for a nice leisurely brunch, we decided to sample Kava’s much raved spread for ourselves and we were not disappointed. Carefully crafted by chef P Mahesh, the Sunday brunch boasts a vast array of dishes from traditional Indian kebabs to a fine selection of salads and live counters serving up favourites like pastas and burritos.

    We started off our hearty meal with salads – roasted lamb with green pea and mint, fish with grain mustard and red onion, and grilled pineapple with tomato salsa, all light, refreshing and the veggies still crisp despite being tossed in a host of heavy sauces.

    After the healthy start to our brunch, we proceeded to the starters counter, making a mental note to spend an extra hour at the treadmill. The South Indian style deep fried fish looked great and tasted even better with hints of flavour from the curry leaves and mustard seeds which were blended in with the masala.

    We were then treated to one of Kava’s signature dishes, the karare paneer. Coated with a scrumptious mix of powdered cornflakes and breadcrumbs, slices of paneer are sandwiched with cheese and mint chutney and then deep fried, leaving you with a delightful gooey centre.
    The spices in the lamb sheek kebab were perfectly balanced and the meat was soft, succulent and melted with each bite. The murg tangdi kebab, chepa vepudu and tandoori mushroom aur pyaz kebabs that followed were all delicious and perfectly marinated and cooked.
    We had little to spare for main course and dessert, so we went straight for the biriyani which we had heard so much about. It was spot on – mildly spiced yet not lacking in flavour. Their signature dal makhani is also a must try – rich and creamy and goes great with the pyaz ka kulcha.

    Sugar rush
    The dessert counter has a good mix and includes favourites like Mysore pak, rasmalai, kheer, chocolate tarts, kiwi mousse and pastries, but a definite hit is the baked yoghurt.
