Comic book characters of Tinkle will come alive on smartphones this April

While the hard copy of the 36-year old Tinkle comic still has followers, its publisher, ACK Media (also publisher of Amar Chitra Katha) is taking no chances with the tech-savvy youth of today. It has decided to introduce popular Tinkle characters on smartphones, through app-based games that will be launched this April. a?Tinkle has a vast array of around 70 characters, of which the cult ones are Suppandi, Shikari Shambu, Tantri The Mantri and Kalia The Crow. With these interactive and fun-filled games, we aim to take children back to the times when Tinkle was a craze (in the 90s), and probably inspire them to grab a copy of the comic book, too,a? says Manas Mohan, CEO.
The company has tied up with mobile games developing company Nazara Games, who will be making these available on platforms like Google Play and iTunes. Manish Agarwal, CEO of Nazara Games, says, a?Comic brands like Tinkle were started by Anant Pai who wanted to teach Indian children about their cultural heritage. We wish to honour his vision, but also present his fun-filled world in a contemporary way.a?
But what about those grown up fans who want to give the games a miss and revisit their childhood in a more sophisticated manner? For starters, Mohan informs that Tinkle had launched a YouTube channel last July, which has already generated over two million views. And for those who havenat seen a Tinkle in ages, he has some good news. a?The books are bigger and thicker now, with more pages and new characters,a? he smiles. Like Wingstar, a character that debuted late last year and has been featured in two issues so far. However, if you still crave for a dose of Suppandi fun the old-fashioned way, we suggest you grab a copy of the Double Digest that features both old and new characters/stories.
You can download the app games for free. Details: tinkleonline.com
