Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan), a 40-year old bachelor living in Mumbai, has to make a trip to South India to immerse his grandfather’s ashes in Rameswaram—as per his grandmother’s wishes. He, however, wants to take off with his friends to Goa. But his grandmother ruins his plan by accompanying him to the railway station, leaving him with no option but to board the Chennai Express. Things get hairy when Rahul agrees to help Meenamma (Deepika Padukone), a Tamil girl who ran away from home and is being forcibly taken back. But when he meets her father, the headman of a local mafia, it is too late to back out. An Android game based on the movie was launched soon after its release.

Master dancer, Mumble (Elijah Wood), gets a shock when he realises that his son Erik is afraid to show his moves. In shame, Erik runs away and meets The Mighty Sven, a penguin who can fly. Erik is in awe of Sven and doesn’t think his father can match up to Sven’s miracles. But when Emperor-Land, the penguins’ home, gets stuck behind large chunks of glaciers, it is up to Mumble to rescue his family and friends. Will Erik be able to see Mumble for who he is and will Sven show his true colours? This is the last animated feature film to have the late Robin Williams in its cast.

Madhavi Sharma (Konkona Sen) is a journalist who covers parties for a daily newspaper. Her roommate is Pearl Sequiera, an air-hostess who dreams of settling down with a wealthy man. Sharma befriends Gayatri Sachdeva in a train, and learns that she has no home and has been subjected to sexual abuse by a filmmaker called Charu Mohanty. She takes Sachdeva in and helps her. However things change after Sequiera meets her man and goes to New York and Sachdeva becomes pregnant with the child of Rohit Kumar, a leading actor. Now Sharma is torn between doing the right thing and saving her career. Kareena Kapoor was first offered the role of Sharma, but she declined.
