CITY-BASED Football+ Professional Soccer Academy has big plans for young footballers, with upcoming camps. The academy was started by David Anand (a certified football coach by English academy, Christians in Sport), along with his friend, Joel Aaron, who has played at both university and national club levels. Having tied up with Delhi-based Eric Benny Sports Management, “the academy sends its pupils abroad, like city-based Jeet Sampath (14) and Robin Priyadharshan (15), who underwent training in Germany for two months last year,” says Anand. “We intend to train children who can represent India in the forthcoming 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup (to be hosted in the country for the first time) and the 2020 FIFA U-20 World Cup,” he adds.At the upcoming summer camp, the players will experience both on and off field training through team activities and theory sessions that include the 17 Laws of the Game (LOTG). “The children will be taught skills like dribbling, ball passing, ball control, tactical defence and shielding, which will improve their decision-making abilities, team work, focus, interdependence and confidence,” explains Anand, who represented India in the Unity World Cup in 2014.The camp will conclude with a match, the winners of which will be awarded individual trophies.
