The new Serena, at the Promenade addresses everyday stress with a natural oil massage
HERE is another reason for our French Quarter to be the ultimate unwind centre. Along with quaint bistros and tree-lined streets, now you can step off Pondyas beach promenade and enter into a place of peace and tranquility a at least thatas the assurance given by the recently opened Serena Spa (at The Promenade Hotel). The spa brand (it was awarded the Best Luxury Hotel Spa in 2014) has locations in the Seychelles, Maldives and now Pondicherry, which is its seventh address in India. I have had my fair share of massages in locales like Bali and was looking forward to see if I could get the same experience in my home city. After all, Serena Spa Chairman, Jesper Hougaard, who has 15 yearsa experience in the spa business had mentioned that they were bringing their level of excellence to this seaside town.
Located in the basement, the area is small but the space is well used and is not cramped. The wood floor and light coloured walls give it a calming atmosphere. A water feature adds a natural ambient sound to the place. The therapy rooms are spacious enough and there is an attached steam room of ample size.
My therapist welcomes me with a warm smile and recommends the deep tissue massage. The therapists have spent about six months at a training centre in Mangalore. As I settle down on the comfortable massage bed, the knots are kneaded out of my back with gentle and fluid movements. All oils and products used at the spa are natural; which Hougaard mentioned they were free from any a?chemical stabilisiersa?. Traditional recipes are followed. trail through household remedies. For instance, using the green gram flour scrub, is traditionally used to exfoliate skin, which the spa uses too.
The 60 minutes whiz past, I am totally refreshed and relaxed. Time for a quick shower, a nice cup of green tea and Iam ready to face the real world.
